I think Huga Chavez was the turning point for Venezuela.
He was the Trojan Horse for the easily influenced majority.
Hugo had charisma, intensity and oratory skills, sort of like Castro in Cuba or Mussolini in Italy or Obama in America.

Something is missing in your analysis, and I’ll tell you what it is in one word: Diversity.
It is socialist revolution to install the out-group in power that destroys. Socialism is fine in any nation which is also an extended family.
Venezuela was a (relative) paradise, it’s true - but it was riven by deep social and racial divisions. When the government - any government - puts revenge against the previous ruling group - it’s a long way down.

Connected to something that I posted earlier today, I was watching the “official trailer” to a movie called “Colors” from 1988. I was struck by its embarrassingly overacted, racist-agitator message.

There is little way to fight what’s happening around the world, as one nation after another succumbs to communism and the lure of “free stuff,” until the USA - arguably the last outpost of freedom - lets communism within its own govt wither and die. (And we can also stomp on it, here and there, as dictated by circumstance.)
How can you tell whether Denmark has been destroyed or not?
Well, Denmark is usually the #1 choice in polls of the best country to live in, and I know several Americans who have lived there >1 year (and are home now) who would live to emigrate.
It’s no Venezuela.
