First came passage of one of the nation’s most restrictive voting bills. Then came efforts to overhaul the number of elected offices in one of Georgia’s largest counties.
Now, with the pending passage of a new congressional map, Republicans have taken another step toward dismantling the Atlanta-area engine that turned Georgia blue, powering President Joe Biden to victory in 2020 and flipping control of the Senate to Democrats.
Just as Georgia has emerged as a pivotal swing state, the GOP-controlled legislature has gone to extraordinary lengths to overhaul election administration, rewrite election rules and redraw political lines in the fast-growing metro region that is currently reshaping state politics.
The changes stand to roll back many of the recent Democratic Party’s gains or dilute Democratic power. And with a high-stakes Senate race, a governor’s race and several competitive House races in 2022, they could have implications that reach well beyond Georgia’s borders.
“We’re getting hit from every angle,” said Dontaye Carter, a former spokesperson for the Fulton County district attorney and also a 2021 mayoral candidate in Sandy Springs, Ga., less than 20 miles north of Atlanta. “We're fighting against it. But the reality is we just don't have the political capital or the resources to make an impact.”

“Everyone was celebrating Georgia going blue last year. And I was just kind of like, ‘Oh, no, we did not win the state Legislature. We’re in trouble,’” said John Jackson, chair of the DeKalb County Democrats. “Democrats really haven’t registered in our minds how important the state legislature is, and why we need to have a better emphasis on winning the state legislatures. Republicans have stacked the cards in their favor.”
They focused on Trump and the Senators, which they deemed as important, and which they could affect with vote fraud in the cities.
But they can’t control state legislative districts with just the cities.
Oh, too bad!
“We’re seeing this alarming trend of Republicans trying to usurp local control,” said state Rep. Bee Nguyen, who is running for secretary of state next year.
While they encourage the U.S. Congress to “usurp local control” of elections.

Personally, I have never understood the attraction of the Atlanta area. Been there many times and it has never impressed me once.
There are no good Democrats....none.
They’re not getting Hit....they’re reaping what they’ve sowed. Their own hands have brought them down.
DeKalb County is one of the most poorly run counties in the state. They’ve been under Federal consent decree for sewer leaks for over a decade, but the operational problems started over a decade before that. They have extremely poorly managed one of the most basic aspects of civilization, handling sewerage. Yet DeKalb Democrats think they should be running the state!?

I am going to vote against Raffensperger in the Republican primary for sure. Against him and that frigging Kemp. Those two got bought off, although I think Raffensperger is really nothing but a closet Democrat who lied about being a Republican.

Exactly. There are no “Blue States” there are Blue Cities in Red States. Just go look at the 2020 Election results by county. Massive areas of Red in states like New York, Michigan, Georgia and Wisconsin. What you have are cesspool cities filled with scumbags and deviants of every sort who flood to these cities and overwhelm the rest of the state. Add to that the cheating and there you go..
My thought also. Delaware, Biden’s home state is more restrictive. The only reason Georgia is purple is because of cheating and failure by elected officials to stop cheating. I knew the cheat was in when a eater main pipe burst turned into a urinal overflowing and every one was kicked out.
