Whenever fake hate crimes are exposed — and as my PJM colleague Victoria Taft points out, there are hundreds of them — the argument is always advanced that we shouldn’t pay attention to the exposé because it would make reporting of “real” hate crimes more difficult.
We hear the same argument when a woman fakes a sexual assault. We have to treat the assault as real because not doing so would make women reluctant to report a rape.
Why should this be so? In fact, exposing hoaxes doesn’t appear to deter anyone from trying again. Why should it deter anyone from reporting a serious crime?
The Smollett “attack” played into every myth of progressive advocates: that gangs of white supremacists roam the streets of our nation, looking to attack African Americans. Everything fits into that narrative. Older Asians attacked by mentally ill black men on the subway. White supremacy! White guy kills two other white guys in self-defense? White supremacy! Two Nigerians sprinkle bleach on a D-lister? White supremacy!
Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, who never met a crime she couldn’t dismiss, knew the Smollett case was embarrassing, so she dropped it. Jussie’s backers took that as vindication.
“Being queer and black is like having a target on your back every time you walk out the door,” “The Chi” creator Lena Waithe said. “I don’t really believe police. I tend to believe black people first.”
This is why it’s ludicrous to try and make the argument that hate crimes will go unreported because the meanies on the right-wing are lying in wait to leap upon the victim and call into question their victimhood. There will always be the belief in the victim — even he isn’t a victim.

Will Gays Be Less Likely to Report Hate Crimes Because of Jussie Smollett’s Hoax?
And more importantly, does anyone care?
Maybe they’ll stop reporting fake ones. Which means all of them.
They might be less inclined to have bleach voluntarily thrown on them...
Or maybe they’ll just rehearse more....
Dumb question from wokemedia.
No one is asking it in real life because NO ONE CARES.
People who don’t fake hate crimes don’t have anything to worry about. If it really happens they will have stories that make sense.
They make them all up, this isn’t going to stop attention whores.
“Will Gays Be Less Likely to Report Hate Crimes Because of Jussie Smollett’s Hoax?”
I don’t actually care what happens to gays. If they all disappeared suddenly, I would hardly notice.
Whenever I read of an alleged “hate crime” my reflex is “falcified until proven true”.
Well Smollet’s Hollywood ....the land of make believe. Although he’s about as popular as Megan Markle was before she kidnapped Harry to make a name for herself. Smollet will always be known for this stunt he pulled and he’ll never work after taking this thru the courts.
There’s a lot of gay on gay violence, up to and including murder. This is rabbit holed by the media, of course.
The question that Rick Moron SHOULD have asked is: Will Gays Be Less Likely to FAKE ‘hate crimes’ because of Jussie Smollett’s convictions?
It will make no difference in the rate of people reporting real crimes.
Might cut down just a bit in fake "hate crime" reports.
Exactly my very first thought.
Who gives a flying carp?
"Gay" Rapture?!
"Grapture?!"
Regards,
I don't know what "falcified" means, but I'm on board with your sentiment.
See my tag-line!

“Who gives a flying carp?”
Those Asian carp jump so high they almost seem to be flying.
“Well Smollet’s Hollywood ....”
Any one directer wanna give it a chance?
No production would want to endanger their interests in hiring a potential lawsuit looking for a place to happen. At this point Smollet’s reputation is squat and it won’t smell better with age.
Idiotic question for idiotic hypotheticals to feed idiotic people......
