Amtrak Expects to Temporarily Slash Service over Biden Vaccine Mandate

Amtrak expects to temporarily cut some service next month as it warns of possible labor shortages due to the Biden administration’s coronavirus vaccine mandate which requires employees of government contractors to be fully jabbed by January 4th.

Bloomberg News reports:

As Amtrak prepares to comply with the federal vaccine mandate, it will likely need to temporarily reduce frequency, particularly on its long-distance services, Stephen J. Gardner, president of Amtrak, said in written testimony for a House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing. About 94% of the rail company’s workers have been fully vaccinated as of this week. […] The problem is most acute on multi-day routes, where crew bases at some intermediate points have relatively lower rates of vaccinated employees.

The courts have made it pretty clear that this is not really required. This happens now only because management wants it to happen.

“About 94% of the rail company’s workers have been fully vaccinated as of this week.”

That does not make sense. Why are you shutting down due to “labor shortage” when 94% of you sheeple are jabbed?

All off-board... leaving for nowhere on track... well all tracks. Sorry, I had a one-track mind.

Wife, two granddaughters and I took the California Zephyr for 36 hours in October. I had not taken this train since pre scamdemic. The staffing had been cut. Most notably, the dining car staffing suffered. The food and service was as before but no longer could coach passengers use this facility. The service employee crew are based out of Chicago and maybe San Francisco. The engineers, conductors and so forth are changed all along the line. They seemed to be working at the bare bones in October.

Hey, this is great news for Joe. If anyone asks him about it, it’ll be Dementia Joe’s umpteenth opportunity to tell his favorite apocryphal “Joey Baby, you’re up to 2 million miles on Amtrak” story.

I won’t comment on the unconstitutional vaccine mandate, but instead on the fat lazy ass Amtrak employees. So 94% percent of their employees can’t do a little extra to pick of the slack for the 6%? I bet they never went through a down-sizing like happens in the private sector.

Because of lower vaXX rates at intermediate points on long routes.

Just as with the usps the fed gov needs to get out of the train biz....anyone who has experienced train travel in Europe or Japan can tell you that. Amtrak is barely in the 20th century comparatively.

If the 6% are concentrated in a key position (e.g. Engineer) that cannot be easily filled, the train stays.

If I were running Amtrak, I would try to serve all the folks that hate plane travel by being different than planes. Smokers car at the back(served by smoking employees). No masks. No shots needed to serve or ride.

“Amtrack is a rolling toilet”

Agreed

That reminds me of a story i heard Paul Harvey tell once....when he was a kid he used to wonder why the strawberries grew so well around the train tracks... Lol

That’s good for a company already on the edge. Plus, let’s make it more inconvenient for the people who still take trains.

I wonder how much of it is due to the lack of passengers? Amtrak is making all kinds of demands including being jabbed if you want to ride on their trains. My brother and I have been planning a trip to KC, MO for some time now to see the Arabia. By the time we each could go, the covid crap hit and now all the restrictions are in place. So, we will not be going by Amtrak now, which was part of the 'adventure'.

So, I wonder how many others are refusing to ride because of their insanity.

there was a time when rail travel on many routes, at least, was pretty good quality .. clean equipment, good food, pretty good service too

before the govt took it over
