Hundreds of prominent professors — including top names from CUNY, NYU, and Columbia — have signed a letter blasting the erosion of math rigor in grades K to 12.
Arguing that curtailing advanced math programs puts American kids at a global disadvantage, the coalition called the movement “the height of irresponsibility.”
A total of 746 math teachers and professors across the country signed the new missive, warning that enfeebled math curriculums would have dire consequences down the line.
The teachers — including two CUNY professors, nine from Columbia University, and 13 from NYU — argued that kids need exposure to advanced math prior to college in order to truly excel.

They'll have to go.
It’s pretty sad that every math teacher in the USA didn’t sign it. Apparently most math teachers are fine with it.
These professors will be cancelled
Sometimes the left strays from their Nazi blueprint and take on certain Soviet tendencies. This whole woke “scientific” movement is nothing more than American Soviet Lysenkoism.
“Woke math”, yet another reason the Chinese will eat our lunch.
Did hell just freeze over? it’s only 35 deg outside...
The principle of “objective proof” is incomprehensible, or overtly rejected, by many. 2+2=5. They love Big Brother.
Should be a lot more than hundreds.
...But these days, I welcome everyone we can get!
F these people who support CRT and woke BS...
...UNTIL IT DIRECTLY AFFECTS THEM
If you “feel” that 2+2=5, then it is. Only an absolutist would say that it has to be 4.
To be replaced by who?
These are the top math professors in the top universities.
You can't replace them with CRT hustlers from BLM.
Should be THOUSANDS of Professors!!
they’re gonna get woke right out of their jobs... they should all feel insulted let alone angry
I wouldn’t care if these were all people destined to be the French Fry guy at BK, or a septic tank ‘technician’, or minister.
But the minute you say it’s in the nursing field, trucking field, anything to do with chemicals, or carpentry...you can’t weaken math skills.
Maybe it’s time to just write an exit for high school kids at the 8th grade and tell them their destiny in life....won’t require much in terms of skills (math or otherwise).
I have an experience. My organization is regulatory financial organization. A team lead who is black came up to me for a question. How to compute change of value in %? For example 56 change 75 what is percentage of change? He knows how to get change 75-56 = 19 but don’t know how to get percentage change. I swear to God. It’s true story. He is a team lead of financial organization! But he is extremely articulate and speaks very well. I’m not English speaker but to me, his talk is excellent.
Quite seriously, public school math teachers barely take real mathematics courses in college, at least not the courses for mathematicians, engineers and scientists. Those with education degrees really have degrees in indoctrination. This is how indoctrination works. All those with MathEd degrees go around convinced they have unquestionable knowledge. That is a case of a big fish in a small pond. They have been indoctrinated into thinking they are some kind of expert in mathematics when all they have is an education degree.
I personally watched "slower" people drop out of rigorous mathematics courses and majors when I was in college 40 years ago. The progression goes: start as a math major, if you can't hack it, then become a Math Ed major. If you can't hack that, then become an El Ed major with a concentration in bulletin boards.
They are no longer needed anyway.
