House Votes to Ban All Goods From China’s Xinjiang Over Uyghur Forced Labor Concerns
Epoch Times ^ | 12/08/2021 | Mimi Nguyen Ly

The House of Representatives late Wednesday passed legislation to ban all goods from China’s remote northwestern region of Xinjiang over concerns about forced labor.

The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which passed the Democrat-led chamber by an overwhelming vote of 428-1, now heads to the Senate. It would need to pass the Senate and be signed by President Joe Biden to become law.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) was the only lawmaker who voted against the measure.

The measure would create a “rebuttable presumption” that all goods from Xinjiang, where the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has set up a vast network of detention and reeducation camps for Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities, are made with forced labor.

To bypass the import ban, entities would be required to prove, with “clear and convincing evidence,” that their goods from the Xinjiang region are not made with forced labor.

The bill also requires the president impose sanctions on foreign officials that he determines have “knowingly” engaged in or facilitated forced labor of victims in Xinjiang.

It also requires the Secretary of State to, with in 90 days of the legislation’s enactment, determine whether forced labor and other human rights abuses against Uyghurs and minorities in Xinjiang “can be considered systematic and widespread, and therefore constitutes crimes against humanity or constitutes genocide.”

Representative Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), the bill’s sponsor, said on the House floor, “This is not a partisan issue. It is a human rights issue. It is a moral issue.”

A similar version of the bill previously passed the Senate in a unanimous vote in July. Lawmakers would need to go to conference to reconcile a number of differences between the House- and Senate- passed measures.

Well, except for slave-made combat boots, of course, and hi-tech satellite weaponry. Never know when we might have to go to war against some commie country or other.

Too bad that whenever most Senators speak, you can see the wires from the puppeteers at the American Chamber of Commerce Criminals moving.

House is not aware that there are forms of slavery being practiced right here in our industrial companies where people work long hours with inadequate pay. Companies advertising for manpower while it fails to hire the contract workers they already employ. Many unfair hiring practices in the declining oil and gas industry.

The House may BAN, however, the ever-lovin’ China Biden Family is NOT GOING TO LIKE THAT.

I bet Pedo vetoes it.

you beat me to it. difficult for feds to know where products originate as chicoms just stick a different label on it. so ban all imports from china. they use prison labor in the rest of the country so it isn’t as though the goods are clean anywhere.

“ House should Vote to Ban All Goods From China.”

Exactly, whats to keep them from moving it to another province and exporting it from there?

“Where was your computer made? Your television set? Etc…?”

Let’s start making them here again. I’ll pay a bit more to bring good paying jobs back.

That one region isn’t the problem, the entire country of communist China is and the alt-far-left know that. Great example of them always trying to change us, for over 240 years we’ve been a Republic and now the foreign communists at one network want that changed to suit them. I saw an article on how, “Univision DEMANDS Dems Bypass Senate Parliamentarian, Pass Immigration ‘Plan C’”, and you can give that a look at NewsBusters. To quote the John Wick movies, “Rules… Without them we live with the animals.” I voted 1-0 years ago to not buy from communist China. If boycotting didn’t work the left wouldn’t do it to us.

Right, I did. It works. The only glitch is electronics, but I solved that by buying gently used from estate sales. I’m not on the cutting edge, but the original buyer paid the communist Chinese.

Where is the House’s attitude on forced vaccinations? Is this not hypecritical?

Beijing should've been turned into a smoldering pile of nuclear ash long ago. Especially after unleashing the CHINA VIRUS on the world.

My own opinion of course.

Agree. Even if this passes and becomes law we’ll still be funding their military build up with our consumer dollars.

Where was your computer made ? Your televsion set ? Etc...?

Ok at one time not so long ago computers were all made in the USA, remember Dell? Then traitors moved the production somewhere else overseas so why can't move back here? The answer it can. The first step is a tariff or an embargo....

Made here the cost will probably be about the same. The difference is in profit margin and stock holder "value".
