Erin Foster, 18, and Jeremy Bechtel, 17, vanished on April 3, 2000, after leaving Foster’s home, according to the White County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Steve Page said in a news release members of Foster’s family alerted him on Nov. 28 about YouTuber Jeremy Beau Sides, who uses sonar technology and scuba dives to try to solve missing persons cases on his channel Exploring With Nug.
He went to Sparta, Tennessee, last month to search for the car the teens were last seen in.
Page contacted Sides and told him to search around Highway 84 in the Calfkiller River, in the area where the pair went missing, the release said.
On Nov. 30, Sides searched in that area and discovered a vehicle: Foster's rusted Pontiac Grand Am submerged in the river.

The family brought the youtuber’s site to the sheriff’s attention. It was the sheriff who told the YouTube the general area to look. If it is a remote, very rugged area finding a submerged car may not be so easy because there would not be scores of divers doing weekend diving all those years.
” Hard for me to believe NO ONE found this car in 21 years when the parents/family told the scuba diver where to look.”
How far downstream was the car found. One person said it was 1/8 mile beyond search area.
It was the Sheriff who told the scuba diver where to look.

Per the story at the link, it was the sheriff, not the family, that told them where to dive.
Signed, Sherlock Holmes.
Re #1:
So exactly how many cars in muddy rivers have you searched for? I’m asking for a friend.
Why don’t yall just watch the YouTube video that is out there from the searcher himself?
Was a Kennedy driving?
If this was my daughter I would not be dry until I searched every place on that river possible. Apparently they(sheriff and family) knew the ‘about’ location. A simple magnet and a walk would have found this car or at least a large metal object worth looking.
Daughter of Vince Foster?
Actually only one of the tires may still be inflated. The others are flat.
The car was found on the assumptions by the searcher as to the most probable places to look.
There was a stretch of highway that ran right next to the river and that is where he found them after using his boat to scan a length of river bottom.
I saw it listed on CARVANA.
We found a boat in a muddy lake once. Got tangled up in barbed wire 20 ft down. Luckily the dive master found me or I’d still be there.
