SINGAPORE - From Wednesday (Dec 8), those who are unvaccinated "by choice" against Covid-19 and become infected will have to pay for their own treatment. We answer some questions you may have on this topic. Q: Does the rule apply to those who are already hospitalised before Dec 8?

A: This will apply to all unvaccinated Covid-19 patients admitted on or after Dec 8, 2021, to hospitals and Covid-19 treatment facilities. The Covid-19 medical bills for those who are ineligible for vaccination, such as children under 12 years old or those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons, will still be fully paid for by the Government. Q: I have received one dose of the vaccine. Do I have to pay for treatment if I am hospitalised for Covid-19 before the second dose?

A: No. The authorities have said those who are partially vaccinated will not be charged until Dec 31 to allow them time to be fully vaccinated.

I can believe it! I'd be scared of polio too. But corona is not polio. It's not even close. There are effective therapeutics for corona where there were none for polio. A mild case of corona gives the kids the sniffles. A mild case of polio puts the kids in leg braces. The mortality rate for polio was several multiples higher than corona. It really is an apples and oranges comparison. We did the homework, prepared, used prophylaxis ahead of time, and we were fine (myself, as well as my spouse and elderly parent). It sucked but I'd do corona a second time before doing shingles again :-)

For the definition of vaccine, the CDC has gone from stating that it is "a product that stimulates a person's immune system to produce immunity to a specific disease, thereby protecting against that disease", to now stating that it is "a preparation used to stimulate the body's immune response against a specific disease".

If you'll read that carefully, or get somebody to read it for you, you will understand that they removed the part about 'to produce immunity to a specific disease, thereby protecting against that disease

It should go without saying, that *mortality* rates are associated with *acute* cases whether discussing polio or covid. But if you really want to adjust polio statistics by a factor of 200 to account for paralysis, then I'll adjust the covid statistics based upon ventilation. After all, the requirement of a ventilator suggests acute disease comparably to iron lung worthy paralysis of the diaphragm. Or, maybe 94% of the covid death statistics should corrected-out where life threatening comorbidities (plural) exist (only 6% of covid deaths had no comorbidity).

You are playing with numbers to try to prove a cognitively dissonant point. Applying the same liberal use of statistics to covid only further highlights the significant difference between the two. Think about it ... how many of the 40 million post-covid survivors in the United States are now newly walking around using oxygen concentrators just to breathe while polio survivors were spending decades in iron lungs? Do you know of any? I don't. The polio comparison is an apples and oranges false equivalency, at least for most of us who aren't invested in the media narrative.
