NEW YORK (AP) — The Rev. Craig Duke has been a Methodist minister for three decades, building a reputation as a staunch advocate of LGBTQ inclusion. His pastoral duties have now been terminated — the result of a bitter rift surfacing in his Indiana church after he sought to demonstrate solidarity by appearing in drag alongside prominent drag queens in the HBO reality series “We’re Here.”
Duke, 62, said he thought most of his 400-member congregation at Newburgh United Methodist Church shared his inclusive views, and he was taken aback when a prominent congregation member, soon backed by other churchgoers, circulated emails attacking him.
“You have thrown NUMC under the bus to elevate a minority of individuals,” said one of the emails. Another, according to Duke, said Satan must be pleased with the discord over LGBTQ rights.
Duke, who declined to identify his chief critics, told The Associated Press that the attacks “felt very personal,” causing him to worry about his mental health.
“It was a matter of sadness and disappointment and heartbreak on my part ... realizing I was losing the ability to lead,” he said.

As a pastor for the United Methodist Church, he has had decades of strident gay activism. Which is A-OK in that church and even a road to preferment. Or so I have been given to understand.
So, finally some push back? Or just that the parishioners don't fancy the notoriety.
I guess I really don't understand this story. Anyone with a United Methodist background to help me out?
Sounds to me that the congregation was okay with passively supporting LGBTQ+ but disapproved of the minister actively participating in it.
I am confused as well. I guess donning a dress on TV was going "too far"? Leftists tend to overplay their hands.
I just think a lot of people are asleep until something like this slaps them in the face…
He probably ask himself, what dress would Jesus wear?
Yep. Methodists.
This pastor didn’t just ‘join’ the Drag Queens, he dressed up in drag at the podium. Take a look at him in full transvestite regalia.
The one good decision the pastor made was to decide not to name those who circulated the petition to get rid of him. That would have made it into a personal war, most likely causing these parishoners to get harassed by the LGBTs. Still, he considers himself a victim of ‘bullying’.
Maybe our nation isn’t as lost as I have feared .
People are saying enough
Only humans have a neurological capacity for sophisticated mysticism. Its expression and exercise are a critical aspect of human creativity. Even perverted leftists have this capacity and find ways to express it. They practice celebrity worship ( making gods of degenerates) earth worship (complete with rituals, laws, holidays such as Earth Day) and of course have seized the infrastructure of many mainline formerly Christian churches for their use.
I just don’t think this guy is all there. It’s one thing to dress up in drag for a halloween party or for a theme party with close friends, but to go on HBO, as a full drag queen to push an agenda? Yeah, you’re gay, and now your congregation knows it
A bridge too far . . .
Throw a church under a bus? It's difficult to picture that in my mind.
Somebody needs to refamiliarize themselves with the book of Romans.Roman’s.
“They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.”

Major lesson here is don’t piss off the members who donate the most money.
The sooner the Bible-believing Methodist congregations leave the UMC, the better.
In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
Basic Christianity 101. God created them male and female. Not transgenders and no same sex relations permitted. Christians can be accepting of the LGBTQ… but it’s not the standard and shouldn’t be supported/promoted from the pulpit. The pastor crossed the boundary into heresy plain as day.
The only way this story would be good is if it meant that for 30 years he has been advocating Let’s Get Biden To Quit (LGBTQ) (going back to when Biden was just a senator).
