Blizzard warnings in effect for parts of Hawaii as potent storm wallops islands
AccuWeather ^ | Dec. 3, 2021 10:29 AM AST | By Ryan Adamson, AccuWeather meteorologist

A potent storm has begun to wallop the Hawaiian Islands with gusty winds and widespread flooding rain, with blizzard conditions expected at some higher elevations, AccuWeather forecasters say.

Much of the 50th state has been abnormally dry recently, with parts of Hawaii in severe to extreme drought. Needed rain began on Friday, but it may be too much of a good thing.

Due to the threat of excessive rainfall, flood watches have been issued for all of the islands and are expected to remain in place through Monday afternoon.

Drought that has been developing over Hawaii became more intense after a very dry November. Honolulu, which averages 2.25 inches of rain in November, picked up just a mere 0.09 of an inch.

Hilo, located on the Big Island, received just under 6 inches of rain last month, but the city typically gets over 14 inches of rain in November...

...After the cold front passes through much of the island chain, the threat of snow will occur over the highest peaks, some of which are more than 10,000 feet high.

Blizzard warnings have been issued for the summits of the Big Island, and wind gusts up to 100 mph will be possible, according to the warning statement from the NWS. Some locations could receive up to a foot of snow. The most recent time blizzard warnings were issued for Hawaii was in the spring of 2018.

"Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility at times, with periods of zero visibility," the NWS warned.

It sounds messed up, but apparently you catch a young male and cuts his junk off, than sometime later you kill him.
The meat is more tender due to lack of equipment...

I worked in the building Major Nelson did.
When they showed a panoramic view of his work, it’s on A1A at Patrick AFB.

Mount Kilimanjaro is 19,340 feet high... I guess that’s why there is still snow there.

Well...

Al Gore was well known as known as a super-doper so he was probably just as high when he made his prediction of no more snow on Kilimanjaro.

I know that’s higher I was just making the point that even on “small” island like Maui you still have land that quite a ways above sea level.

How about a quick tourism lockdown report for those thinking about heading to the islands, like the one you freepmailed to me months ago? Would make a nice monthly or so ping list.

“... and widespread flooding rain...”

They’d be wise to collect the rainwater for their little contamination problem...

No matter where one lives on this earth, even on the equator, it can get freezing cold just a couple miles above the surface.

That is why you can see snow-capped mountains in tropical areas.

Anybody who has been to Mt Washington (NH) in the summer can experience this for themselves. It can be 75 degrees at the bottom but up top, there could be a below zero wind chill with ice and snow. That's only about 6,200 feet in elevation.

I used to swim in Hilo and see snowy mountains. It is common for snow on the top of Maunaloa and Maunakea. Sometimes friends would take a bunch of kids up there with improvised sleds.

Weather on Maunaloa, this shows the prediction for 13373 ft:

Maunakea, for 12959 ft:

Good idea to check for yourself. However, Hilo Int’l airport station says rain next 4 days. I didn’t check any other places in Hawaii.

That’s all way up top in the summits , above 12,000 ft. No effect on all the humanity down below. Just raining , which the island needs . Especially the areas around Parker Ranch which had a lot of fires this past summer. This weather ( so far) has been a blessing

“Mauna Loa Kea 13,803. It has a ski area.”

Loa and Kea are two different summits. There is no developed ski area just the mountain.

And they get mad at people skiing because the savages think the mountain is holy. They try to discourage it.

There is a ski resort in Morocco (north Africa) too. In the Atlas Mountains, tops out at over 10,00 feet.

Don’t say Buffet and Stacey Abrams in the same article. Next thing you know, after she is finished, he will be the Late Jimmy Buffet !
