A sheriff and gun expert are expressing doubt about Alec Baldwin's claim that he did not pull the trigger on the set of the film Rust, despite an attorney for the film's assistant director backing up the actor's claim.
'The trigger wasn't pulled, I didn't pull the trigger,' the actor told George Stephanopoulos in an interview set to air Thursday night, often having to pause to collect himself as he discussed the death of Halyna Hutchins.

Bryan W. Carpenter, a weapons armorer who works for Dark Thirty Film Services, said that this is highly unlikely.
'In order to make it fire, you have to put your thumb up onto the hammer, cock the hammer all the way back, and then as the hammer is completely cocked back, then you pull the trigger and then the gun fires,' Carpenter told Fox News. 'So that's very important because that gun had to have two step process to fire. It had to be cocked and the trigger pulled to fire.'
Carpenter continued: 'Once you cock the hammer back on one of those old west guns, it doesn't take a lot to set that trigger off.'
His comments come after Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza told the outlet that 'guns don't just go off. So whatever needs to happen to manipulate the firearm, [Baldwin] did that and it was in his hands.'

Baldwins effors at trying to lie his way out of this do nothing more than prove what a lousy actor he truly is!
Old single action revolvers can “go off half-cocked” if you pull back the hammer and let it slip, without ever having to put your finger on the trigger.
Of course, the media doesn’t seem to want to do basic research to ask these key follow up questions. Was the hammer pulled back? Did it get caught on your holster? Your sleeve?
Weren’t there two shots fired?
baldwin is getting special treatment. He has the responsibility for the effects of the shot that he fired. It may or may not be criminal.
Well if he cocked the damn hammer and released it it would go off without pulling the trigger, right?
One thing’s for sure, Alec Baldwin is as big an idiot as we all thought.
Smart Alec’s performance is not believable.
He’s a Failed Actress.
I read that two people were hit by one shot - bullet passed through the woman and hit the second person.
Just like that SUV killed those people in Waukesha
It’s conceivable (though extremely unlikely) that he cocked the hammer on a loaded gun with live ammo, pointed it at someone, and the sear failed causing it to fire. That it killed someone’s IS HIS FAULT: he cocked the hammer on a loaded gun with live ammo and pointed it at someone - violating 3 of the 4 rules. He prepared to shoot, save only for a fallible hair trigger to do so. He admits guilt.
Reasonable doubt it was murder, sure.
Beyond a reasonable doubt it was reckless endangerment turned homicide.
Ok, so, If guns can go off at any time, without the holders consent, we can agree that pointing it in someones face for any reason, even to make a crappy movie, should be at least Murder 2. Intentional killing.
I bet there are Baldwin fingerprints on the hammer and trigger.
Baldwin has a lot of his money tied up in this disastrous film......
ergo anything he says has to be self-serving. How much money?
Must be millions judging from his sit-down w/ Stephan/olous..........where he put on a crying act.
“Weren’t there two shots fired?
I read that two people were hit by one shot - bullet passed through the woman and hit the second person.”
Hence, the single bullet theory was (re)born.
The Michigan shooter can use the same excuse “I Never pulled the trigger it just went off” the Waukesha terrorist can use the same excuse “I didnt plow the car into anyone it just moved by itself”
Just reading....the 4 live rounds found on the set were unique. Sounds like they can track them. They should have prints on them.
We were not born yesterday. Alec Baldwin pulled the hammer back and pulled the trigger after pointing at the woman he killed. He is trying to hide from what he did. He cannot. He shot and killed an innocent woman by playing around with a gun.
The Montgomery County Sheriff Office posted this hilarious message to the public on their facebook page last Thursday,
Prior to wearing someone else’s pants, please remove all drugs, drug paraphernalia, stolen property, or any other illegal items the “owner” of the pants may have left behind. “These are not my pants,” is not an affirmative defense.
