On November 9, the New York Times published a new defense of the 1619 Project by Jake Silverstein, editor-in-chief of the New York Times Magazine (“The 1619 Project and the Long Battle Over U.S. History”). Silverstein’s purpose was to prepare public opinion for the release of a book version of the project titled The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story, which was released on November 16. The original magazine edition, masterminded by Times staff writer Nikole Hannah-Jones, suffered devastating criticism after its release in August 2019—criticism that began with the WSWS.
Silverstein has staked his reputation on the 1619 Project. This has gone badly for him. His name will forever be associated with the secretive manner through which the project invented its false and error-ridden historical interpretation, as well as the orchestration of the cover-up that has followed.

I don't know why we've had to rely on the World Socialists to lead the way in the debunking of the 1619 Project, but they have done a good job of it.
This is a long piece, but very readable and informative. As you can see, from just this brief excerpt, the dead pan snark is just grand.
Uh oh, the NYT is calling out the heavy-caliber lefty intellectual clean-up crew on this one.

Remember the anti-white book and hit TV series Roots? Alex Haley finally said later “I knew it was untrue but black people needed a myth. The other races have myths like the Greek and Roman ones. So, I made it up.”

Excellent article. They ripped his “scholarship” to shreds. Ronald McDonald should be embarrassed, but she won’t be.
My how things have changed, thanks to Barry. When I did my graduate work in US History in the early 00s, we studied historiography with the aim to identify historical perspectives and biases, with emphasis on discerning strong from weak theory. 1619 clearly ignores all that.
I also took a rather interesting class on immigration and ethnicity that included readings on “whiteness” — i.e., how different migrant groups became “white.” That was pre-Obama, so we could study it disinterestedly, although there was a glaring absence on the question of ethnic blacks becoming white, something that urban black culture was deeply concerned about at the time, aka “oreos.”
It’s amazing how quickly and radically a political and intellectual climate can change. I blame it all on Obama. Regardless, I can’t imagine anyone studying “whiteness” now, whereas but 15 years ago it was a logical thing to consider when studying ethnicity.
Yes, the guy really gives them what for, as my grandma would say, and it’s super informative. This man has delved into the subject, that is clear. Unlike some who have been given Pulitzer Prizes.

That awful book is a best seller. What the heck is wrong with this country? Are there that many whites who hate themselves and want to grovel before black racists?
Obama was a hack, he was just an avatar for the Left. Now they are left with Biden and brute force. As to valid ideas, they have NONE.
