n a much-anticipated announcement Wednesday, Gov. Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito disclosed to “friends and colleagues” they will not seek reelection in 2022.

Baker and Polito, in a joint statement obtained by MassLive, described this as an “extremely difficult decision.”

Hadn’t thought about it but I could see them running as a team, “appealing to the middle”. I wouldn’t vote for them but they are somewhat more sane than the last crop that ran for the Dems in 2020.

Normally I would agree, but Biden isn’t getting back in or even running. Baker and Polito could run as Dems which they really are or as independents like Bernie. They could appeal to both Dems and never Trumpers. Agreed there’s no route as Republicans.

The other side would say that we were overdue. Failures include Romney, Kerry, Dukakis and in primaries we have Ted and Bobby Kennedy, amd for third party we have William Weld as Libertarian.
