The Michigan school shooting suspect allegedly posted a picture of the semi-automatic handgun used in the massacre on social media before he opened fire on classmates and teachers at Oxford High School, according to the local sheriff.
“It’s my understanding, again, that this was a recent weapon purchase,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said Tuesday night about the 9mm Sig Sauer SP 2022 pistol the suspect’s father bought on Black Friday.
“He had been shooting with it and posted pictures of a target and the weapon. That’s all part of what’s being looked at. We’re going to do a deep dive on the social media and all the activities of this young man,” he added about the 15-year-old Oxford High School sophomore, CNN reported.

I suppose they mean it wasn't a Black powder pistol and feel the need to differentiate and point that out due to the many mass murders using a Black powder pistol.
“What is a semi automatic handgun”
It is accidental honest labeling for a change. Usually they label a Semiautomatic handgun as an “automatic handgun”.
If only the interwebs had a search engine.
Modern pistols fire one shot per trigger pull, then will feed a new round into the chamber “automatically” allowing you to fire another round by a simple trigger pull. Pretty much all modern pistols are semiautomatic. The media uses this term in an attempt to prime the reader against pistols.
Isn’t every gun semi-automatic? You pull the trigger, then pull the trigger again. Bullets fly as fast as you can pull the trigger.
Or am I missing something here?
And you call yourself a "conservative"? It is time to turn in your Barry Goldwater membership card and your official William F. Buckley Jr. decoder ring.
Or am I missing something here?
You never saw John Wayne cock a cowboy gun in a cowboy movie? You never saw John Wayne rack the lever of a Winchester rifle in a cowboy movie?
I will go out on a limb and say you have never seen a bolt action hunting rifle either.
You have got to get out more often.
Semiautomatic “selfloads” the next round in the chamber for firing without needing extra to mechanical or manual loading the next round into the chamber for firing.
“You have got to get out more often.”
Probably.
semi auto has one firing chamber. Revolvers have a cylinder with four, five, or more firing chambers, each with a single cartridge in the chamber.
Even a double action revolver which will fire as fast as you pull the trigger still requires mechanical input from the shooter to make the cylinder rotate to make the next round ready. With a semiauto the force of the round discharging completes this step of reloading the next round making it ready without any added effort from the shooter.
At least they seem to have slowed down describing every firearm as an AR-15 for a change.
True...
The semi auto feeds ammo from a magazine, one cartridge at a time into the firing chamber, with discharges limited by the number of cartridges loaded into the magazine per trigger pull to discharge one round at a time.
Revolvers are not considered semi-automatic, not even “double action” where there is no need to manually cock the hammer.
For most handguns “semiautomatic” is used to differentiate from a revolver. A double action revolver will fire just by pulling the trigger. With a single action revolver you have to cock the hammer before shooting.
