He says he was just headed to Walgreens. But the expired registration on his car tag meant he could be pulled over.
So there he is, sitting on the cold curb at night, cuffed by the Fresno County sheriff's deputies.
Yes, the man tells CNN, he'd avoided getting a new registration, not wanting to spend the money. So now the 28-year-old is looking at a ticket on top of the registration and a late fee.
Nothing comes cheap and easy for him -- except for methamphetamine. That's the lesson he says he got at the age of 13, when his older brother, the person he looked up to the most in the world, told him to try the drug.

Registration, car testing/repair, and insurance is really expensive there. You can save big bucks not springing for those “extras”.

This is why I don't drive on expired registration or license. That is what "acting white" is all about!… he'd avoided getting a new registration, not wanting to spend the money. So now the 28-year-old is looking at a ticket on top of the registration and a late fee.
DANG!
I have a kind of friend acquaintance who lives in his car and does Instacart. His registration is out of data.
Having been through the NY State Police emergency services training on meth, one pot production, and the effects of this mega-poison, it is a scourge.
I know a lot of people in so cal, they all want me to move there. (while they bitch all the time about wanting to move.)

There is only One Rule if you plan on Breaking the Law:
Never break More than One Law at a time!
The percentage of meth relapses is not good. Those who recognize their problem do try, but the addiction is so strong it is very difficult to remain on the wagon, even with support.
It’s like an enemy has attack the U.S. with a bioweapon that doesn’t kill right away, but slowly renders the people who use meth mentally and physically useless. As a result these meth addicts become a further problem for the U.S., with crime to support their addiction.
This is what the young’uns call “riding dirty”. I daresay cops wouldn’t catch nearly as many criminals if the baddies just kept up on their license and registration.

Especially the dirt cheap Mexican meth that the cartels are flooding the country with. That stuff is strong and will melt your brain.

The ONLY cure is a bullet to the head.
That is often an excuse for cops to stop somebody when they recognize the people in the vehicle as “frequent law enforcement consumers”. Most cops know their beat, and they know who is up to no good. Expired tags, etc. is a reason to stop them and check them out. It’s also a good way to run some of them out of the area. That’s what good policing is, but people don’t get it.
Isn’t it just a fix it ticket.... get your car registered and the ticket gets thrown out or signed off?
No. It’s a steep fine, and it gives the police probable cause to browse through your car. If it’s late model, you don’t have any priors, and you look reasonably respectable, and they don’t find any contraband, your lucky to just get a fine. If you have priors, the car is getting impounded, as well as a hefty fine
I was being somewhat sarcastic. I’m retired law enforcement, 25 years. Please, keep screwing up criminals. It makes them easier to find.

“the man tells CNN...” Big mistake. CNN twists and changes whatever you tell them. Fresno is a beautiful city with huge farms. The fog is dangerous on some mornings. Drugs are attractive to young people without weekly church, daily family dinners, and yearly family vacations.
