Moscow [Russia], November 25 (ANI/Sputnik): The combat effectiveness of Russia's MiG-31 interceptors will triple after repair and upgrade, representatives of the Sokol aircraft plant reported to the Deputy Defense Minister Aleksey Krivoruchko.

On Thursday, Krivoruchko, during a working trip to Nizhny Novgorod, visited the Sokol aircraft plant, where he examined the production facilities of the enterprise, checked the progress of repair and modernization of MiG-31 fighters, and also held a meeting on the implementation of the state defence order.

The overhaul makes it possible to achieve practically trouble-free operation of the aircraft in service, the plant's representative said.

"And the modernization, which is carried out with the complete replacement of onboard radio-electronic equipment with modern samples and provides for the use of modern aviation weapons, approximately triples the combat effectiveness of the aircraft," he said.

At present, the main task of the Sokol plant is overhaul with deep modernization of the MiG-31 interceptor fighters, which has been underway since 2007.

MiG-31 Foxhound is a long-range, two-seat supersonic interceptor aircraft offered by Russian Aircraft Corporation (previously Mikoyan and MiG) principally for the Russian and Kazakhstan air forces. Its maiden flight took place in September 1975.

The MiG-31 aircraft was derived from MiG-25 Foxbat interceptor and is equipped with state-of-the-art digital avionics. (old tech)

MiG-31 can work efficiently in all weather conditions while fulfilling visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR), day and night. MiG-31 was the first soviet fighter aircraft to have true look-down and shoot-down capability.

More than 500 MiG-31 aircraft have been produced, out of which 370 were delivered to the Russian Air Force and 30 are in service with Kazakhstan Air Force.

The remaining aircraft were upgraded to different variants under several upgrade programmes. Only some of the Russian MiG fleet have been upgraded to MiG-31BM standards under the upgrade programme.

Serial production of the MiG-31 began in 1979 and ended in *1994*. So - 15 year production run.

I really like the MiG-31’s demonstrated ability to defend Iraqi airspace while buried in sand. Has to be a big selling point for the Russia’s hottest interceptor.

Why stop with triple? Since we’re just pulling multiplication factors out of the nether regions why not octuple times more effective??

What was the basis/measurement of the original effectiveness?

How is it calculated?

What numbers/performance measures/data produce the new X3 effectiveness?

Putin thanked Biden for Russia making millions off the Russia pipeline, allowing Putin to build new fighter jets.

Biden waiving sanctions on Russian pipeline because ‘it’s almost completely finished’
May 2021

President Biden says he decided to waive sanctions against the Russian-owned company behind the controversial Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Germany because “it’s almost completely finished.”

Biden — who will sit down with Russian leader Vladimir Putin next month in Switzerland for the first time as president — was asked by reporters Tuesday why he was allowing the pipeline construction between Russia and Germany, despite it undermining NATO and American interests.
“Because it’s almost completely finished, number one. The idea that anything that — and it’s not like I can allow Germany to do something they’re not,” he said

I think that was MiG-25’s. 31’s are basically space planes with longer range missiles. They can shoot down satellites and spy planes.

According to the pics in the media at the time, it was a MiG-31 Foxhound.

Steal enough new electronics from the West and add in some stolen turbine technology, and these old planes will be more effective.

But nothing will make a modern fighter maintenance free.

Triple the Effectiveness.

Flying Barn, can spot it from homeschool homebuilt radar kit, I imagine. I takes like underwing cargo-bays and exhaust like Rodan (mk II) or Ghidra (classic).

The 31 has an obsolete radar profile. It might be useful against Ukraine or maybe Georgia but 5th and 6th generation fighters will kill it before the 31 pilot knows there’s a threat.

Buried in the sand. That’s a good one.

Reminds me of something many years ago when I used to work in the home building industry(Toll Brothers).

Had a nice young buy guy one of these ‘’McMansions’’. He had a wife and two little kids.

This guy said he was a Sky Marshall.

Only trouble was the guy was always home, always on the ground.

Five days a week and sometimes on a Saturday when I did over time this guy was ALWAYS home, puttering around in the yard, sometimes I’d see him getting into his BMW with a set of golf clubs.

Always wondered how it was this guy could see what was going on in the air when he was always on the ground.

Scott Speicher says a MiG-25 is dangerous. It is most dangerous against incoming bombers, but not so much against a even a 1970s era US aircraft.

Yeah, she’s old but much like the B-52 she’s getting new weapons that change her roll from what she originally was built for. Among them is a new anti-ship hypersonic missile.

The Russians have long invested in developing missile technologies and they are seeing the fruits of it. The West, on the other hand, just didn’t and are way, WAY behind.

Her (the 25 and 31) rolls are changing to basically a fast missile truck. Think the B-52 but smaller and at Mach 3.
