Fuel costs likely to drive up South Carolina electric bills

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Electric bills are likely to increase next year for South Carolina customers served by Dominion Energy or two units of Duke Energy.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the increases are likely to come after state regulators review how much the power companies have spent on coal and natural gas in 2021. South Carolina power providers estimate fuel costs annually, and then settle up differences between the estimate and what they actually paid. Fuel costs are passed through to customers on a dollar-for-dollar basis.

If utilities collect too much, they issue refunds, but if they have collected too little, rates go up. This year, utilities have probably billed customers too little for fuel.

The economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic has driven up demand for natural gas and prices have nearly doubled from March to November, rising to about $5.50 per million British thermal units — the standard industry measurement.

Coal prices also are surging.

Don’t expect a coherent answer. You will probably get some cut and paste screenshots from a blog. You are talking to someone with a single digit IQ. He has no concept of what the Organizing Resolution of the Senate actually says:

https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-resolution/27/text

The Republicans CANNOT stop any bill or nomination from proceeding to the floor. The organizing resolution says that in the case of a tie in any committee, Schumer has the power to discharge the matter to the floor regardless.

Actually, I really got angry with Graham when Tucker did his report on Graham voting YES for all liberal, Dim judges. That really did it.

And now I’m angry with my senator tillus for his voting for Biden’s budget. I sure hope we can get all of these traitors OUT

See prior reply. The bottom line is that the DEMOCRATS run the Senate and judges are exempt from the filibuster. Graham can do no more to stop judges than Shumer could under Trump (when the Democrats were in the same position as Graham).

It’s possible that Graham could gum things up, as Shumer did, and slow things down by a few days, and I’ll agree it’s better than doing nothing, but it won’t stop the judges...if 50 Democrats want them, they WILL get confirmed in the Senate.

500,000 Trump voters sat out the Georgia runoffs. If either Republican had won either runoff, then REPUBLICANS would run the Senate and could slow judges to a crawl, or stop them all together.

So, if you want pissed at someone, get pissed at those 500,000 Trump voters, or get pissed at their leader, Lin Wood...who told those Trump voters to give those Senate seats to the Democrats...Graham is powerless as he’s in the MINORITY in the Senate.

Thanks TG. I explained it in a bit more detail. I would also prefer Graham at least make a token, but futile, attempt to slow things down, but the end result will be the same regardless.

I do NOT trust L. Graham any more.

I don't know why we can't get rid of Graham here. NOBODY I know personally even likes him. The GOP makes sure no one viable runs against him, so either vote for him or some communist racist from the low country. I just skip him. One less number he gets.
