Solomon Islands Prime Minister blames foreign powers for civil unrest that prompted call to Australia for help

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister is blaming foreign powers for encouraging civil unrest in the Pacific nation, as Australian police officers arrive in the country to help quell rioting.

Protests in the capital Honiara quickly spiralled out of the control of local police, with arson and looting in the Chinatown district and the city centre, and crowds threatening to disrupt parliament.

A mixture of grievances have fueled the protests, but the government's decision in 2019 to switch diplomatic allegiance from Taiwan to China is the main source of the conflict...

Australia using its police and military to help a pro-Communist China government?

Australia has done this before when there was trouble in the Solomon Islands but now the local government is in bed with Beijing.

A couple of things, not sure why you hate Australia and keep posting these ridiculous articles. First of all, the ABC source you are referencing is like posting MSNBC or CNN stuff on FR. ABC is as far left or further than those two media outlets. ABC is a big sore point for conservative Aussies who have to shell out $1 Billion/year to support them. The conservative government just tried to do an investigation of the ABC and the Green and Labor, and far left independent senators killed it in the Senate by one vote.

Second of all, there is no more anti-CCP than Australia. Why do you thing the CCP media and Xi attack Australia almost everyday in the media or giving speeches. Why do you think that the CCP has put the boycotts on so many agriculture products, including wine, and things like coal? It backfired on them because they had so many Aussie ships backed up with coal in the Chinese ports, as they wouldn't accept them, so now they have a crisis in energy.https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-economy/article/3130109/china-australia-relations-whats-happened-over-past-year-and

Our Prime Minister took a strong stand against China over the origins of the Covid virus. In the meantime I just read where your own facist government led by your “star president”, Biden has stopped the investigation. Also, because of the Chinese treat to Taiwan and Australia, we entered the agreement with the USA, Japan and the UK to get our first nuclear subs, which is huge cultural step for this country. It is hilarious to see FR’s talk about Australia supporting the CCP, when your own President and family is owned by the CCP and according, the USA is owned now by the CCP as long as you have Biden in power.

Australia is in the Solomon precisely to try and stop the influence from the CCP, as we have also being trying to do with Papua New Guinea. The CCP is trying to build a “fish fleet harbor” in south PNG, only a few miles from norther Australia. The only problem, is there isn't any major fishing in that area, it is a navy base they want to build. The CCP is pouring money into these poor island nations, and Australia is trying to stop their influence. https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202107/1227658.shtml

As reported just a few days ago by the BBC, one of Australia's largest telephone providers, Telstra, is buying Digitel Pacific, to keep the CCP from getting it. The CCP has been trying to broadcast and infiltrate all the islands, as well as Australia. At least we outed them here in Australia, especially in the universities and have kicked out many of CCP spies out of Australia. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-59033485

Obviously you do not keep up with Aussie news, as you would know there has been a huge flareup between the Chinese ambassador for the CCP in Australia who kept bashing the conservative government. He left and now we just got a new one from the CCP. The CCP has imprisoned Australian journalist and all Aussie journalists, have escaped from China, except for those imprisoned.

I know you cannot trust the AP, but most people in Australia believe we are in a “Cold War” with China, and with Biden in power, we don't have any trust in the US now has the backbone to support Taiwan or any pacific island.

Our Federal government in power is conservative. The Labor party here are the Democrats, many are pro-China, but most now are not as most Aussie believe we are in a cold war with China...See post 8.

Meant to add a last link as I mentioned the AP and referencing the “Cold War” we are having with the Chinese https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-business-australia-asia-pacific-economic-cooperation-new-zealand-eed7ad1cc737b5a771845647e31496ef and another from the Air University https://www.airuniversity.af.edu/JIPA/Display/Article/2743886/the-chinaaustralia-cold-war-unpacking-national-security-concerns-and-great-powe/

We post articles here from both liberal and conservative sites so that we can know What the opposition is saying.

“Know your enemy”

Posting an article here does not mean you agree with it.

Without this article posted here we never would have gotten your insightful response from Australia, Which I thank you for.

Australia using its police and military to help a pro-Communist China government?

Yes.

But only because the alternative is that China would do it if we didn't.

If Australia didn't send in support, it would be the perfect excuse for China to do so.

And we don't want Chinese troops that close to us.

It's a recurring issue in the Pacific at the moment - if Australia (and to a lesser extent New Zealand) don't provide aid and assistance, China definitely will. They seek to dominate the region and we can't afford to give them any more openings than we have to.

but the [Solomons] government's decision in 2019 to switch diplomatic allegiance from Taiwan to China is the main source of the conflict

I was talking about the government of the Solomon Islands.

I understand the difference between the conservative NATIONAL government of Australia, and the various socialist leaders of the individual states, like Victoria's "Red Dan" Andrews.

Americans think that Australia is a monolithic political entity, when it's not, at all.

if any country is in bed now with China it is the USA.

Joek and The Ho are Chinese puppets.

Thanks, I don't have problems with posting articles from liberal sources, I just wanted people to understand that they have ta take with a grain of salt article from Australia's ABC. Just like something from MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC in the USA. ABC was founded as a public broadcaster, when there wasn't any other commercial radio, especially for outside the major cities, like PBS. But it has become a monster on TV and radio and it hard to compete by the independents when they don't have to worry about advertising. It is essentially run the Green Party now and no conservative presenters or talk people are allowed and they have 100% far left people.

Its a tough call as you see it what I read included the money story.

Its my understanding that Solomon Islands reaped a huge Chicom windfall with the 2019 switch.

Australia and NZ have done this before as you and I know but not under these circumstances.

China has the money to do what it wants it seems where’s the money from the other side?

To send the Chinese military to Guadalcanal to squeeze Australia would be a long reach for China since they are tied down with Taiwan, the Philippines, Japan and the island disputes.

Japan took a lot of territory to the north and west in 1941-42 creating a supply line before putting its marbles in the Solomons.

There are Aussies and Kiwis who love freedom and those who love the CCP IMHO.

Mr. Morrison is not for the CCP but Laborites like Mark McGowan in Western Australia are.

The Solomons sold out to Beijing for money in 2019.

Hopefully the situation will change there in the coming months.

I think the people protesting against the pro-Beijing government in Solomon Islands have it right and hope Australia’s military power has a say in changing the equation away from the CCP.
