Failed Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke was met with jeers and demands that he "get the hell out" during a recent campaign stop in Houston, Texas.

As I’ve long observed: most run for office simply as a bill-paying job, with little expectation of winning. Convince enough to donate enough, hire some staff to keep working the circuit, pay everyone including self a comfortable salary, makes for a good paying occupation for a few months or years. Sock away surplus, make connections, sell the product on and off the campaign. If you happen to win, great. If not, the profit and perks and popularity were fun and useful.
