Coal power stations fire up as wind fails to blow
Yahoo Finance ^ | November 21, 2021 | James Warrington

Hourly power prices are set to surge on Tuesday evening as low wind levels mean more expensive coal-powered plants will need to be fired up.

Power for the peak hour between 5pm and 6pm rose to £1,067 a megawatt-hour during the day-ahead auction for Tuesday.

It’s the third time prices have jumped above £1,000 this month, with the latest peak seen last Monday.

With wind power accounting for just 10pc of demand for the peak hour, output will need to be ramped up at more expensive thermal goal and gas power stations.

The Reason we have so many more trees in the Northern Hemisphere today than 100 years ago is because people quit burning wood and started burning trees!

Surprise! Building coal fired power plants in poor countries actually protects critical animal habitat because people quit going into the jungles to cut down trees for cooking.

Did the UK get permission from Greta Thunberg and her insane greenie friends? If not, those plants should be shut down. It’s for the sake of the children. And Mother Earth. And stuff.

..is because people quit burning wood and started burning trees!

That seems a little inefficient to me. But if that's what they did then okay.

Doesn’t the UK and EU have enough Homos in high positions that they can BLOW the windmills into operation,? or do they just suck at their jobs?

That's a buck forty three ($1.43) per kWh wholesale! Average residential rates in the U.S. are about $.11 per kWh. That's about 13X greater.

I assume this is from the UK due the mention of the price in pounds and the fact this is a yahoo ripoff of The Telegraph, a UK newspaper.

I am almost certain that the only reason coal power is so expensive is because of some kind of carbon tax.

I’m thinking a tree is a little hard to fit in a fire place.

The liberal Brookings institution estimates that the cost of coal fired electricity is $0.032 kWh or $3.20 per MWh or £2.37.

That $0.032 worth of electricity would run a microwave oven for an hour.

Green, or fresh cut trees, don’t burn well. You have to cut down dead ones, or let the wood ‘season’ a year or so; longer if they’re evergreens, due to the sap.
