Shorted on Pay, Navy Sailors Forced to Take Out Loans
NEWSMAX ^ | November 22, 2021 | Jeremy Frankel

Some U.S. Navy sailors have been forced to take out loans after being shorted on pay, reports Military.com.

The sailors earned increases in housing allowances after getting married or relocating somewhere where the cost of living is higher. The loans are meant to help these service members make ends meet.

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Vice President Gillian Gonzalez in an interview with Military.com said the issue is happening everywhere, and that geography does not have much to do with it. He also said the group has seen an increase in loan applications from sailors but did not have an exact number regarding what the increase was.

Cmdr. Matt Knight, public affairs officer at Navy Personnel Command, said the Defense Department requires the Navy to process Basic Allowance for Housing change requests within 30 days, although delays still occur.

"Navy Personnel Command and our subordinate commands take every measure to ensure the volume of transactions does not exceed our capacity, but occasionally backlogs do occur due to a variety of reasons," he told Military.com.

"These backlogs are resolved as quickly as possible to limit the impacts to sailors."

Gonzalez said one sailor had not been paid in three months due to an enlistment extension and pay error, forcing the sailor to use up savings. Others have spoken out about these issues on social media.

Military.com also reported that a personnel specialist first class who asked not to be identified since he is not authorized to speak with the press said the underlying issue "lies in the consolidation of personnel support and customer support detachments that began in 2017 and appears to be understaffed."

He added that "shutting down dozens of processing centers took that transaction load and dropped it in one building’s worth of people."

Historically, being shorted on pay or not paid at all has been the cause of many a military mutiny and rebellion.

Bill O’Reilly’s next book ought to be “The Killing of America’s Military”! Or maybe “The Killing of America”!

Can they put Kamala in charge of fixing this problem? I am sure all of these sailors would sleep better at night knowing she was the one that would resolve this after seeing the results from her border crisis.

This is not new. Has happened before. Fairly regular occurrence. The real problem is the way the Navy continually reinvents it's admin support systems. The PSD/CSD system worked. However, by the end of the war (from my experience) they were staffed with a lot of civilians as the Navy reduced certain uniform support rates. The detachments are expensive to maintain. Having been in the meetings at Millington as they discussed changes to Personnel support, the emphasis was on cost not efficiency. Even when we had fully staffed unit admin offices with multiple trained uniform personnel the problem as described still existed. Some E-5 or below decides they need a spouse. But, has no savings and high interest loans on a gaming system, computer, car, BS loan from Navy Fed (they are convinced to take while in Boot Camp), or all of the above. Marries and expects the Navy to get him his allowances by the next payday or he will be forced to use his high interest rate credit card to pay bills. Why, because the majority of his pay is already going out in payments. I believe the expression is, “piss poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.”

There is another problem, as people flee New York and California, and move to Florida, they have driven rent in our area to double in price. I will have to move to another part of the state because the renewal rate on the apartment that is 1 mile from my grandchildren has gone from 1870 to 3200. 3200 might be cheap in NYC, but 1870 was a higher priced apartment here just 7 months ago. Thank you Aholes that won’t stay and fix your state, but flee it and ruin the next place you nest.
And it’s not just in Fla, it’s the Carolina’s and Georgia as well.

Good thing this never happened during the period of time I served as the lower ranking men never had anything to save. I’m not sure what we would have done, but I would imagine that the only thing left for some would be to go on an extended AWOL. This is an absolutely disgraceful situation! I guess if one deserted & then were caught & put in the brig you would at least have “3 hots & cot”....maybe. Depends on punishment for that offense. Guessing the tatoo parlors & bars will suffer where that may be happening.

If the Navy thought you needed a spouse they would issue you one.

Had a Navy pay issue only once - after six months trying to fix it called my Senator. It was resolved in three days.

I don't really blame Kamala for bungling the border crisis. The Biden Admin position is apparently, "open borders/no enforcement against illegal entry". Unless she was going to personally hand the invaders their their checks and "welcome to America" bag of free stuff, what was she supposed to do?

“Lets all across the border free money.”

How about we ask the feds for the same money to each individual up here, and cross the southern border to live there since it is open land from the refugees. We can take over down there and run a conservative country for the rest of our lives, and a couple of generations, on half a million in Mexico alone.

Peso to our dollar is almost 21 times higher at the moment. That means that $450,000 is equal to 9,450,000 pesos. Cost of living in Mexico is, on average, 50.86% lower than in United States. And if you need a hobby, house near Texas and get your hazmet driving license with a cdl and make $14k a week driving to cross the border back with and dabble in the stock market. I can’t figure out why the illegals getting the money are not re-crossing the border to live better than the US can give them. Mexico is a political immunity country.

I was in the US Marine Corps in the early 1960’s. Word then was if the Marine Corps thought you needed a wife, they’d issue you one.
