GoFundMe Finally Will Allow Kyle Rittenhouse To Raise Money For His Defense Now That He No Longer Needs A Defense
Legal Insurrection ^ | Friday, November 19, 2021 | William A. Jacobson

“In light of the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, we want to clarify when and why we have removed certain fundraisers in the past”

GoFundMe has become notorious with canceling fundraisers perceived right-of-center people accused and trying to raise funds defend themselves. It happened to former U. Central Florida Professor Charles Negy who was trying to raise funds to fight the university action against him.

It happened to Kyle Rittenhouse.

Now GoFundMe will allow Rittenhouse to raise funds. Now that he’s been acquitted.

GoFundMe would not allow “replies” to its tweet, so a lot of people Quote Tweeted their responses. It was a hell of a ratio:

Here’s an excerpt from the statement (emphasis added):

GoFundMe’s Terms of Service prohibit raising money for the legal defense of an alleged violent crime. In light of the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, we want to clarify when and why we removed certain fundraisers in the past.

Once charges for a violent crime were brought against Kyle Rittenhouse in 2020, GoFundMe removed fundraisers that were started for the defendant’s legal defense. We did this as part of our regular monitoring efforts; in addition to those fundraisers, our Trust & Safety team removed hundreds of other fundraisers between August and December 2020 — unrelated to Rittenhouse — that we determined were in violation of this long-standing policy.

If someone is acquitted of those charges, as Rittenhouse was today, a fundraiser started subsequently for their legal defense and other expenses would not violate this policy. A fundraiser to pay lawyers, cover legal expenses or to help with ongoing living expenses for a person acquitted of those charges could remain active as long as we determine it is not in violation of any of our other terms and, for example, the purpose is clearly stated and the correct beneficiary is added to the fundraiser.

Here’s a small sample of the several thousand and growing reactions:

Has this policy been consistent for people they view as "good" and "bad?" Are they implying everyone charged with a violent crime is guilty?

Easy. Find at least one instance where a Leftist, or a Black, or a Woman, was charged with a serious/violent crime, and they blocked their GoFundMe.

Can't find one? Okay, then they only block Rightist, White, Men.

I don’t know if that is true or not, but I’d be interested.

GoFundMe should change their policy. No donations for court cases or anything to do with legal issues, if this is the case. Otherwise, they deserve to be sued.

I hope he sues them into oblivion. Maybe he should go into law school instead of nursing, but then he’s too good a kid to swim the sewer of corrupt lawyers etc. After 10 years of him interacting with corrupt lawyers like Binger it would probably change him and not for the better.

Rittenhouse does still need legal funds.

It's not over. Now come the civil suits. Expect the "victims" families to sue Rittenhouse for wrongful death.

People here think Rittenhouse will sue for defamation. On the contrary, he's still a target.

And can't the feds charge Rittenhouse with civil rights violations?

Has no one noticed GoFundMe CEO Tim Cadogan has set his Twitter page to Protected? Apparently he made some inflammatory comments about Kyle Rittenhouse.

I hope someone was able to archive his account before he locked it down.

They could, but it seems like a stretch.

Kyle was still presumed innocent after being charged. I don’t think it makes sense to refuse fundraising for someone merely accused.

He wants to be a doctor, I read.

He’ll have enough money to go blend in at a small good college in a Red state. After 8-10 years buried in the books, the left will have a dozen more tantrums like this and forget about him

Hmmm. They are saying that the allowed Rittenhouse’s after the trial. Was this guy’s gofundme allowed before he was convicted?

"What did he say?"

I haven't seen the tweets but I have read he called Kyle a white supremacist and murderer. I don't know if those are direct statements or implied. Whatever he said is now hidden behind his Protected twitter account so it appears he doesn't want the general public to read his tweets.

The Feds aren’t going to charge Rittenhouse. This is just Nadler blowing smoke to pacify the left-wing kook base.
