Americans may soon get a better glimpse into a future of green-friendly transportation by visiting a U.S. national park.
Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg signed a joint pledge Wednesday to test some of the newest and most innovative travel technologies on public lands and improve visitors’ tourism experience.
Under multimillion-dollar pilot programs made available by the $1 trillion infrastructure law and other federal spending, visitors to national parks could see self-driving shuttle buses, along with electric scooter or bike stations and electric charging stations for zero-emission cars.
In February, for instance, park officials said it would seek to add 26 electric shuttles and 27 charging stations at Zion National Park in Utah with the help of a $33 million transportation grant.
Buttigieg said the joint initiative would “keep our most prized national wonders accessible and safe for all Americans.” He and Haaland toured a trail widening project on Wednesday for bicyclists and pedestrians along the Potomac River in the nation’s capital.
The effort comes as America’s national parks have seen visits soar this past year from pandemic-weary travelers in search of the wide-open refuge of the outdoors. But that’s added to traffic congestion and potential strain on the surrounding environment.

In other words, kiss driving through a national park goodbye. But don’t worry - you will still be paying for it,
green-friendly transportation
Hop on a “Brandon” after you pay a hundred dollars and show your vaccine passport.
I think busses with natural gas fuel are the answer
To be green friendly, unfortunately we need to cover them all with windmills and solar cells.
By do not worry, the solar cells are beautiful to look at!
Fast enough to outrun teed off grizzly bear or bad tempered buffalo?
ZERO DEATHS BECAUSE OF UN GREEN PRACTICES .... EVER.
Electrical vehicles will be practical in the parks as cell towers will be necessary every 300 feet to support G5 cell phones and these poles will bring in power to charge the always green electrical vehicles.
“” He and Haaland toured a trail widening project on Wednesday for bicyclists and pedestrians along the Potomac River in the nation’s capital.”
That’s their idea of a National Park... Clowns.
That brought a laugh too-a bike trail by a river in a city is just a small green space for delicate flowers to play in-Big Bend, Guadalupe Mountains Park, Joshua Tree Park, Grand Canyon, etc-those are REAL National Parks-and the only green-friendly transit modes that work there are feet, bikes and horses...
Zion NP has perfectly useful shuttle busses now. No need to replace them with costly electric gimcracks. Just stupid spending for the sake of spending. Easy when it isn’t your money.
Ya know what a bear is thinking as you go flying by on a scooter?
Ummm, fast food.
The buses at Zion park are an absolute atrocity! You have to sign up with a lottery and that requires a cell phone application and you have to play the thing like a friggin video game in order to get a reservation.
The real issue here is the UN agenda 21 which proposes to shut down all national parks worldwide to human beings. Normal people will not be allowed to enter these parks. This is part of the plan to execute that agenda.
