[history]
WINCHESTER, Va. — As one of football’s most feared middle linebackers of the 1950s and 1960s, Sam Huff of the New York Giants starred in one of the most thrilling championship games of all time and became the first defensive player to become a superstar in the National Football League. The Hall of Famer, who also played for Washington and spent more than 30 years as a broadcaster for the team, died Nov. 13 at a hospital in Winchester, Va. He was 87.

Best announcers ever IMHO
Always thought that Sonny knew more about the game than 90% of the folks on TV

During his eight seasons in New York
I grew up in NYC area 50s and 60s ... loved Sam Huff and all the Giants.
Then he signed with the hated Redskins. Ugh.
RIP ...

The important question about any reported death is: Injected or Not Injected.

Good player and man but not a patch
to this guy...

"Unitas made $17,500 in 1958 for leading the Colts to the league title. To appreciate today's equivalents, $10,000 in 1958 is worth roughly $87,000 today. For playing in the title game, each of the Colts earned $4,718 and each Giant got $3,111. Considering the relative pittance players were paid then in salary, the winner's and loser's shares were fairly significant."

In those days he must have sprung a thousand leaks when drinking water from all those pain injections.

Sam was one of the best both on the field and behind the mike.

Yep. It was reported that Sonny J. would party hard on Saturday night and then imbibe sufficiently before the game on Sunday. ... He was still able to remember and execute the plays very well. What a character! (Back when the NFL allowed such.)
