A steel manufacturing company has been ordered to forfeit $6 million — a near-financial death sentence — after admitting it had run a pipeline for “dozens” of illegal immigrants from Mexico to come and work for it, undercutting competitors.
All Steel Carports Inc. told the court in a sentencing memo that owner Ignacio Chavez, who came to the U.S illegally himself before winning legal residency in 2009, didn’t consider hiring illegal immigrants to be a big deal.
“In his culture laws are there but few respect them,” the company’s lawyers wrote.
...The Biden administration cut him a break, dropping human smuggling and money laundering charges the Trump administration had brought. ...

if someone was illegal prior to 2009, and got legal in 2009, so at least 12 years or more in country, and understood enough to build a national business and apply for a PPP loan to buy a Audi R8, is it even possible to claim cultural differences as a reason for lawbreaking, while keeping a straight face? Did the Judge keep a straight face when all charges were dropped and a fine was levied instead?

“In his culture laws are there but few respect them,” the company’s lawyers wrote. We really should disbar any lawyer who tries to use that as a defense.

Home building companies do the same thing. They will have an immigrant who is smart set up a company to subcontract out to. The subcontractor will buy trailer parks to house their employees.
If that subtracting company gets in trouble, the home builder states they had nothing to do with it.
Millions of dollars are in those businesses...

I experienced in the 1980's that the Europeans I was dealing with tried various work arounds to get out of government taxes and fees. They were very sophisticated in their methods. What I learned was that people will follow fair laws and find ways to get around laws they deem unfair.
So now we are importing a group of people from countries which look for every angle to take advantage of government, supported by those in government which feel the latest illegal is owned something because America bad!

The parent group of the company I worked for had a foundry in Missouri. On a Friday morning back around 2005, immigration services raided the plant. Unfortunately somebody leaked info about the upcoming raid and 100 employee's never showed up for work.........LOL!
