The Federal Bureau of Investigation says it is aware of reports that unauthorized emails from a legitimate FBI address were sent to thousands of organizations.
"The FBI and CISA are aware of the incident this morning involving fake emails from an @ic.fbi.gov email account," the FBI said in a statement Saturday. "This is an ongoing situation, and we are not able to provide any additional information at this time. The impacted hardware was taken offline quickly upon discovery of the issue. We continue to encourage the public to be cautious of unknown senders and urge you to report suspicious activity to ic3.gov or cisa.gov."

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed today that its fbi.gov domain name and Internet address were used to blast out thousands of fake emails about a cybercrime investigation. According to an interview with the person who claimed responsibility for the hoax, the spam messages were sent by abusing insecure code in an FBI online portal designed to share information with state and local law enforcement authorities.
Yeah, the government can protect your personal information just fine!
The situation is under contr&^%$#@J&^%!
What type of false flag is this and what can we expect over the next few days?
It’s another one of Brandon’s distractions.
I think it is real... Someone clicked send and then said oops...
How would we know that everything coming out of the FIB isn’t fake?
I got an FBI email that said “You live in a free country and you have freedom of speech and privacy of your medical, financial and tax records.”
I knew it was obviously fake. We no longer have those freedoms in this country.
(Satire——I didn’t get the email.)
The FBI is so corrupt and incompetent. They are a joke.
Let’s Go FBI!

shows how it was done (taking advantage of absolutely idiotic FBI software developers):
Much of that process involves filling out forms with the applicant’s personal and contact information, and that of their organization. A critical step in that process says applicants will receive an email confirmation from eims@ic.fbi.gov with a one-time passcode — ostensibly to validate that the applicant can receive email at the domain in question.
But according to Pompompurin, the FBI’s own website leaked that one-time passcode in the HTML code of the web page.
I seriously doubt that’s how it occurred.
They probably just got caught harassing the citizenship.
The Clintons showed that you can pass top secret information to our enemies in a deniable manner, by simply putting it on an insecure server. "Oops!"
Thank you for sharing those details. :)
Goes to again... Unless they knock on your door with a warrant don’t give anybody nothin... :)
I went to the FBI twitter page once to tip them of crimes. I reported the FBI
Does it matter?
Who trusts them anyway?
Are they “aware and investigating” the Leftist’s threatening emails to the judge in Kyle Rittenhouse’s case?
I thought that was what this article was going to be about ie.
all the threats in the KR case came from one FBI terminal.
cwray @fbi.gov
