Blues guitarist Robert Cray has dropped out of Eric Clapton’s U.S. tour citing the British guitar legend’s anti-lockdown stance as well as his public opposition to coronavirus vaccine mandates.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Cray said he backed out from a tour with Clapton after the latter released a song last year comparing lockdowns to slavery.
The song in question is “Stand And Deliver,” a joint release with fellow sceptic Van Morrison that saw Clapton sing: “Do you wanna be a free man / Or do you wanna be a slave? / Do you wanna wear these chains / Until you’re lying in the grave?”
As he explained to the Post, Cray – a black man born into a segregated community in 1953 Georgia – rejected such a comparison.
Cray revealed he sent Clapton an email after he heard the track last December, saying “his reaction back to me was that he was referring to slaves from, you know, England from way back.”

Robert Cray is well known guitarist.
“Strong Persuader” is the tune I’m most familiar with.
He’s played with Clapton in the past.
I've had opening bands play longer sets. I've attended longer Christmas Plays in elementary school, longer sets in a bar, and I didn't have to pay $50 for a ticket in those cases.
Maybe the REAL problem, is Robert didn't want to play as long as Clapton wanted him to play, and he now has air cover.
Regardless, Let's Go Robert!
But not no mo.
He should check in with Hank Aaron and Colon Powell.
So nobody can use the world “slave”, anywhere in the world, unless you were born black in America, 90 years after it ended.
Idiot.
It would be nice if Cray worried as much about actual oppression and slavery as much as the word itself.
A black snowflake. Interesting...
Nothing like throwing a pity party for yourself and having the Washington Post back you up. The Washington Post knows who props up White Liberal Elite power...and who they can help cancel... Thugs.
Let’s go Bradon.
From the Swedish chef: “Ferk Jer Berden!”
“Smoking Syringe.”
Right. The term "cubicle slaves" in offices and "wage slaves" for most employees apparently will trigger civil rights indictments now. What about a term for Jews in Egypt forced to build monuments and pyramids under the Pharoahs? "Unpaid unwilling compulsory guest workers?"
Robert Cray is one of the most notorious #$%#$%#hole musicians of all time.

Bass player.
Robert Cray? Never heard of him.
But now you have. So this nobody, Cray, is going to get lots of woke worship and more gigs with the "right" kind of bands.
Yeah would have liked a Robert Cray stratocaster. Maybe I’ll just get the. Eric Clapton stratocaster.
Well, maybe someday
Yuge fan of Eric Clapton since the thrilling Cream era where I saw the group many times, including traveling to NY to see the first appearances as my vacation.
No one here has mentioned the enormous controversy when Clapton spoke out in 1976 from the stage against unlimited immigration, and gave a nod to a right winger in England named Enoch Powell.
A little:
“England is for white people, man.”
“I don’t want you here, in the room or in my country,” Clapton declared. “Listen to me, man! .... I think Enoch’s right, I think we should send them all back. Stop Britain from becoming a black colony. Get the foreigners out. Get the wogs out. Get the #$@# out. Keep Britain white. I used to be into dope, now I’m into racism. It’s much heavier, man. F#@#g wogs, man. F$%#@ Saudis taking over London.....”

My thoughts exactly. Rock n Roll used to be about being anti-establishment, questioning authority and individual liberty (if it feels god, do it). Now? Most, save a few like EC, have become what they used to rail about.
Clapton had a bad reaction to his clot shot. Totally understandable, his reaction. Check out this interview: https://youtu.be/vuP-bBlx374
