Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon was indicted by a federal grand jury Friday, charged with contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions from the House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
The indictment is a first. No one has ever been prosecuted before for contempt of Congress when executive privilege was asserted. The past cases involved defendants whose testimony was sought regarding their government service. Bannon, by contrast, left his White House job in 2017, well before the period of interest to the House committee.
If convicted, Bannon could face up to a year behind bars and a fine of up to $100,000.
The fact that the Justice Department was willing to charge him with criminal contempt, despite an assertion of executive privilege, may help persuade other reluctant witnesses to agree to cooperate with the committee's investigation.
The committee has subpoenaed 16 former Trump White House officials for testimony, documents or both.

If for nothing else, Brandon deserves impeachment and removal from office for failure to execute the law and secure our southern border.
But, the pubbies will simply enjoy their committee chairs and the money that flows in.

What the hell did Bannon have to do with Jan. 6th? And what’s wrong with contempt for Congress being that most of them are domestic enemies of the USA?
Bannon might have had a case not to turn over communications with the White House until the executive privilege case is ruled on, but Bannon is a private citizen and doesn’t enjoy any executive privilege himself, and if he is subpoenaed, has to show up.
I have nothing but contempt for congress.

That's not how it works. Prosecutor can bring any federal crime to a grand jury. This is obviously a political prosecution, but not illegal. Dems fight with knives, Republicans fight with feather pillows.
Danchenko a week ago. The Jan 6 stuff and this going after former Trump officials is a purely political bit of street theater...a show put on by the Democrats because they know they cannot legally win an election against Trump, and they aren’t sure they can illegally win one again, either. So, they are desperately tryimy to take him out before he becomes the nominee.
Just pay the fine. I have nothing but contempt for Congress.
