Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon was indicted by a federal grand jury Friday, charged with contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions from the House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
The indictment is a first. No one has ever been prosecuted before for contempt of Congress when executive privilege was asserted. The past cases involved defendants whose testimony was sought regarding their government service. Bannon, by contrast, left his White House job in 2017, well before the period of interest to the House committee.
If convicted, Bannon could face up to a year behind bars and a fine of up to $100,000.
The fact that the Justice Department was willing to charge him with criminal contempt, despite an assertion of executive privilege, may help persuade other reluctant witnesses to agree to cooperate with the committee's investigation.
The committee has subpoenaed 16 former Trump White House officials for testimony, documents or both.

There are a small handful of people who fight for us but the party as a whole does not. In fact, they detest us.
He was never indicted. Congress held him in contempt, but that’s as far as it went.
Mitch $ McCarthy got this, Steve.
Lizard Cheney needs to be locked up.
I too have contempt for Congress 🤪
You’ve also got Liz Cheney doing THIS:

In the latest deployment of her black-art politics, Liz Cheney has used her position as a J6 committee member to subpoena Bill Stepien, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager. Bill Stepien is also the current political advisor/campaign manager of Wyoming congressional candidate Harriet Hageman. President Trump has endorsed Harriet Hageman in the quest to unseat and remove Liz Cheney in the GOP Primary.
The “justice system” is now completely a political arm of the Democrat party.
Bennie’s merry band of Bolsheviks has not issued a subpoena to Ray Epps, the FBI instigator on January 6th.
I wonder why ?
He was indicted about 10 minutes ago!!!
Fascism continues apace.
The political prisoners keep increasing in number.
And she came attached to that praying mantis-looking husband of hers.
I have nothing but contempt for Congress. It is no more representative OF the people than is a rock.
Not sure why he didn’t show up to testify and do the standard “Memory fails me at this time” response to any meaningful question. Don’t take the 5th, because they can grant immunity and there goes the 5th. Transient memory failure is the best response.
If Repubs had any wits, if they do take over congress, they should immediately take this course of action by opening a hearing on the DOJ/FBI abuse, calling in obama et al as witnesses.
But they won’t cuz they are rinos that refuse to fight.
Sooooo, Steve Bannon shares a contempt with 98% of the U.S. population for the most loathsome body of vermin since Uncle Schmedlap’s barn O’rats?
and send a message to others subpoenaed that they will be indicted if they don’t cooperate and worse, turn.
Bannon is driving the RATS nuts, he speaks the truth and reaches millions every day with his broadcasts. THEY FEAR THE TRUTH and thus THEY FEAR BANNON and his army of “Deplorables”!
Indicted by a grand jury. I am not a lawyer but that just does not sound possible, legally. It seems like the House committee may have standing to try to impose a fine, but a grand jury? Bannon has not committee a crime.
Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, along with all other Democrats need to pay for this. Mccarthy better pack his bags too. He’s no leader. He’s a worthless leftist piece of schiff.
