More than 2,500 young children taking part in Moderna COVID-19 vaccine trial at American Family Children's Hospital in Madison
MADISON, Wis. —
With kids as young as 5 years old getting COVID-19 vaccinations, a small group of Wisconsin preschoolers and even some babies are getting the shots.
The groundbreaking research is taking place at the University of Wisconsin Health in Madison.
Children as young as 6 months old are taking part in the trials.
Four-year-old twins Sam and Theo Rodriguez are part of those studies.
"I didn't even feel a thing," Theo told WISN 12 about his vaccine injection.
The boys are part of the new trial of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine trial for kids ages 6 months to 4 years old.
They got their first shot last week at American Family Children's Hospital in Madison but only after their parents considered all of the factors.
"I think it's normal for parents to have a lot of questions or concerns. You're talking about a new vaccine. But we have more questions or concerns about what it would mean if they were to get COVID," their mom, Anne Rodriguez said.
The only question now for the family is whether the boys will actually be vaccinated.
Because it's a blind trial, they don't know whether they received the vaccine or a placebo.
"The chances are greater than not that they received the actual vaccine rather than a placebo, but we don't know," Anne Rodriguez said.
Dr. William Hartman heads the vaccine trial at UW Health.
So far, he said side effects in kids have been just some sore arms or slight fevers and nothing unexpected.
Hartman said he believes it's only a matter of time before vaccine eligibility is opened up for the youngest Americans.
"I would think it would be very possible, by mid-January, to have a vaccine available to this age group," Hartman said.
That's a moment a lot of parents are waiting for and one that may have come a little sooner for the Rodriguez family.
"When they are fully vaccinated, we will walk out thinking our family is protected," Anne Rodriguez said.
When Sam and Theo turn five in January, making them eligible for the Pfizer vaccine, the researchers will let the family know which shot the boys got.
If it was the placebo, the family said they will make sure to get the actual vaccine for the boys at that time.
UW Health is one of 80 centers across the country conducting the Moderna trial.
More than 2,500 young children are taking part.

The first Milwaukee kids ages 5 to 11 received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Thursday at the Milwaukee Health Department’s drive-thru clinics.

Dozens of kids got their dose at the southside location on South 23rd Street and West Mitchell Avenue.
Kids 5 to 11 only receive one third the amount of an adult dose of Pfizer, and in three weeks will receive a second dose.
Milwaukee Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson brought her two kids, Teddy, 6 and Mimi, 5 to the clinic Thursday.
“I’m emotional, I mean it’s been a long haul and this is historic that we have a vaccine not only for adults but also for children that we know is safe,” she told WISN 12. “When people ask them what their mom does they say she’s fighting the coronavirus. So for them this is their way to fight the coronavirus.”
The children Teddy and Mimi told WISN 12 they also got the vaccine to help others.
Other Milwaukee area parents took their kids to get the vaccine the first chance they got.
“As soon as they said she could have it we had already decided some time ago that we would do that,” said Jenifer Dixon, a nurse and mom to 5 year old Ingrid.
Dixon said she had some reservations about having her 5 year old get the vaccine, but she believed getting COVID-19 would be worse.
“I think they know more than we think they know. They hear the news and stuff so she just knows she wants to be able to play again without a mask on, said Dixon.”

Vaccine experiments carried out on helpless babies and young children in Mother and Baby homes in Ireland during the 1960s breached the Nuremberg Code put in place by an international war crimes commission after horrific Nazi experiments on children were discovered.
The Nuremberg Code says, in part, that in terms of any medical experiment “the voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential. This means that the person involved should have legal capacity to give consent; should be so situated as to be able to exercise free power of choice, without the intervention of any element of force, fraud, deceit, duress, overreaching, or another ulterior form of constraint or coercion”
No clearance was ever given by unmarried mothers to have their children experimented on in every case uncovered at the notorious homes by an Irish government commission. Neither was permission given to donate dead babies’ bodies to science or to put them up for adoption, many to wealthy Americans.
The untried vaccine program was led in Ireland by the distinguished leading biologist Professor Patrick Meenan, who was also a key government advisor on the issue. He later stated: “There was a tradition of doing testing in orphanages. You went to where the material was to put it crudely.”
The experimental vaccine trials were seeking a cure-all vaccine for childhood illnesses such as measles, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, and other conditions. They were high-risk efforts to find a cheap vaccine for several illnesses at once, the so-called 5 in 1 shot.
The trials were carried out on behalf of British company Wellcome, later to become GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).

The gene therapy does nothing of the sort.
The so-called protection is just a swarm of spiked proteins that stay in the body for 6 months (and does NOT prevent the COVID!), afterwards you will need an annual booster forever and ever.
