Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) vetoed Republican-sponsored school choice bills passed by both the state House and Senate that would have helped low-income families obtain scholarships they could use to leave failing neighborhood public schools.
In her veto letter Friday, Whitmer called the legislation a “catastrophic failure,” according to a report at mlive.com:

I am of the opinion that the catastrophic failure are the failing public schools.
Override it! These kids and their families don’t deserve to be held down in the muck just to please the Teacher’s Union.

This is just a union pay off. Absolutely nothing to do with the quality of education offered.
Todays students will grow up and pay society back for their opportunity of an education. If the public schools don’t want to provide the education they are charging the students for ... of course the money should be spent more wisely.
Sad. I still have family in that state. The young grow up used to getting watered down, incorrect, toxic, mind numbing indoctrination. Their parents foolishly keep on voting for
the D. no matter what. I’ve long since stopped trying to enlighten them. This is their ‘religion’ you might say.
Families can fix this when Whitmer is up for re-election, just toss her out and elect someone who will repair the failing schools.
The trash here gush over their Socialist governor. During the worst mandatory lockdowns she had over 50% approval and it went up again later on. People knocked each other over in 2020 pushing to get to the polls first to vote for Biden to oust Trump. The three counties near Detroit are yuge Dem strongholds and the rest of the state is sensible and patriotic. Hope next time we will prevail.
I was a proud member of the Michigan voters who put him in office by securing Michigan with a tiny 10,400 vote majority on 2016. Old times.

The teachers union owns the Democrat Party, lock, stock and chalkboard. At one time there actually were Democrats for education reform, but they’ve all been run out of the party.
Take your kids out of public schools and put them in a private or parochial school or homeschool them yourselves. Parents, this is your chance to stand up and be heard.
Also the money — stop voting for any increase in funds for education from pre-school through college and university.
Marxists like her are the real racists. I live in Maryland. To buy a used car, it requires a deep “safety” inspection. The “safety” issues they find generally add about $1500 to the price of the car to make it “safe.”
A young, poor black man from the ghetto finds out about a job ten miles away that pays $18 an hour. He can get someone to drive him to work for two weeks and earn enough to buy a junker $500 car. It’s just enough to get him to his job for 3 months till he saves enough to buy a $3000 car, which might last him for a year or more and he can get a $7000 car.
But when the racist Democrats insist on useless and expensive “safety” inspections that make the $500 car cost $2000, that poor young black man from the ghetto can’t possibly get rides to work long enough to save that much and he remains a poor young black man in the ghetto, just where the racist Marxist democrats like Whitmer want him.
