Trump takes credit for Youngkin’s Va. win, says MAGA holds key to victory

Former President Donald Trump took credit Monday night for Glenn Youngkin’s come-from-behind win in the Virginia gubernatorial race and told congressional Republicans that the path to victory is through his army of “MAGA” supporters.

Trump spoke to the National Republican Congressional Committee, the House GOP’s re-election outfit, and told his audience that the party will not win back the White House in 2024 without appealing to his voters, according to the New York Times.

The 45th president said Youngkin would not have been able to pull off last week’s shocking win over Democrat Terry McAuliffe without Trump supporters coming out in droves to vote for the Republican.

“And he’s not perfect. As indicated in this linked thread.”

Be sure to let us know who is perfect so we can vote for that person.

That’s funny, with a title like “Trump takes credit for Youngkin’s Va. win” you’d think that there would be quotes from Trump taking credit. None appear in the article.

Always good to read the article before posting about it.

In a statement following Youngkin’s win, Trump thanked his “BASE for coming out in force and voting for Glenn Youngkin.”

“Without you, he would not have been close to winning,” the former president said in a statement

MAGA is a great message.......

In a rat state like VA, not so much.

Covid stuff not going away, economy going to hell, never ending foreign policy disasters, fbi going after soccer moms....

The election became nationalized and voters used Youngkin as a proxy against the perverted vegetable in the WH.

I don’t think Trump has learned anything from the 2020 election. I am certain the election was stolen but the fact is that Biden got way too many votes and way too many people didn’t care that the election was stolen.

Why?

A very simplified answer is that they find Trump very off-putting. Many people didn’t even know why they were voting for Biden they just knew that they didn’t like Trump. What Trump is doing right here is an example of that. What’s the point of this besides feeding his ego? Is this kind of comment going to get people who actually voted for Biden before to vote for Trump or they just going to find it another reason to find him obnoxious and off-putting? I would guess that Youngkin won’t appreciate this story. There’s just no point to these kind of comments. Youngkin won without them. The issues are so blatantly in favor of the Republican party that all you need to do is be a good teacher and stand on those issues.

“Smart move by Trump. The media will have to rage that it’s not true, and thereby give Trump more attention.”

Oops, don’t have to wait for the media, the Deep State Lovers right here are raging about it not being true.

“...so Christians don’t really need to go down a list of points to know that MAGA is in their best interest....”

I agree with you, but it is important it be said for the fence sitters and those on the other side of the fence. They have ways of making good look bad and visa versa.

Biden is proving that what President Trump did for the country was making America the Country we knew...lowered taxes, got rid of a sh** load of regulations, controlled the border, upgraded the military.

He was for "We, the People"....and he was right at every step.

Just saying. Lots here as well as all over are more beholden to Trump than to “conservatism”. They act as if he is indeed a god and does no wrong, including on issues.

Good point.

The reason I like to argue it the other way is for the benefit of another kind of fence-sitters, who, like me, are conservative but not outspokenly religious.

Some of us not-very-religious people are actually turned off by too much Bible talk or churchy jargon…. but I like to point out that even if you aren’t religious, religious people are natural allies of conservatives, since we all benefit from freedom.

This was a big issue in the 1980s when Jerry Falwell’s Moral Manority was in its heyday. I loved Ronald Reagan, and the Religious Right supported him, but frankly, I found Jerry Falwell to be an embarrassment and the MM made it easy for the Left to mock and discredit conservatism.

I’d rather debate over economic policies and constitutional freedoms than waste time debating over whether or not God created the universe in six days.

Uh, I did read the article. You and the author however, read something into Trump's statements.

In a statement following Youngkin’s win, Trump thanked his “BASE for coming out in force and voting for Glenn Youngkin.”
“Without you, he would not have been close to winning,” the former president said in a statement"

Note, the author editorializes the word "his" before BASE for coming out.... It's THE base that came out, and Trump knows this. That's why he said Without you, he would not have been close to winning,”
