White House extends vaccine deadline for contractors
Federal Computer Week ^ | November 4, 2021 | Natalie Alms

The White House announced Thursday morning that the deadline for federal contractors to receive their vaccinations is being pushed back to Jan. 4, 2022.

The change aligns the contractor deadline with new requirements from the Department of Labor's Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for certain private employees and from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for healthcare workers at their facilities.

The White House says that moving the deadline from Dec. 8 into early next year is meant to provide clarity across various requirements, and isn't a response to current labor crunches and the upcoming holiday season.

"We wanted to do this because we're really aligning it to make it easier – to make it as easy as possible for businesses to implement these requirements and for workers to comply," said a senior administration official of the change during a call with reporters.

"We know that some employers...may have workplaces subject to requirements for the federal contractors and other workplaces subject to the [emergency temporary standard] rule," the officials said. "We know that vaccines help reduce absenteeism. We know they protect workers. We know they create a safer and healthier workplace, which workers want. But that's the reason we decided to align the three policies."

For all three groups, the deadline is Jan. 4.

For those under the contractor or CMS requirements, that's the cutoff for these employees to get their second dose of any of the two dose COVID-19 vaccines or the one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

For the OSHA rule, it's when employers will need to either ensure that their workers are vaccinated or implement a regular testing scheme for those who aren't.

Workplaces under the contractor requirements, or the new mandate for healthcare entities under the Medicare and Medicaid Services rules, won't be subject to the new OSHA standard, according to the White House's announcement of the change.

The mandate has already seen pushback from Republicans , who've called the requirements for contractors inflexible and the rollout rushed, and from over 15 states that have sued in attempt to stop the mandate. Republicans have also cited concerns that the twin contractor and federal employee mandates will cause workforce attrition to the detriment of the government's ability to work.

It's not clear if all contractors will realign with this new deadline. Some are more zealous about the vaccines than others.

yadda yadda yadda

We are not stupid. EVERYTHING that Biden and his bootlickers do is pure politics. "We The People" are forgotten.

Fire everyone for not getting the shot after Christmas, how thoughtful.

The Industrial Commission of Arizona put out a statement on 11/4/2021 saying businesses in Arizona do not have to follow Biden and OSHA’s vaccine mandate. OSHA gave the ICA the authority to make our own safety rules in 1974.

I predict that it won’t withstand court challenges. It will disappear or be severely weakened before end of 2021.

Exactly.

What about the contractors such as Raytheon, that told employees to disclose their shots status by a certain date, and any ‘decline to disclose’ would be treated as giving resignation ?

What about contractors that already fired workers for not getting the shots?

I concur with your analysis. One of my kids works for a government contractor is a highly specialized engineering field. I just let him know about this and how they said it has nothing to do with any pushback. It has everything to do with major pushback.

Next step is business mandates need to be attacked in court.

As in if Hon demands the jab or else, you go to court to stop it.

Good on Arizona!

Note that hidenbiden told the companies to ignore the 5th circuit Court stay.

Arizona is in a different circuit Court, but if that Court issues a stay, it’s possible that hidenbiden might say the same thing to companies in those states.

@ Rio

Even if that’s the case, businesses implement their own mandate. Very dumb and sad.

This action by the Brandon crowd makes it clear that the OSHA rule does not meet the definition of “an emergency”. The 5th circuit court of appeals will have a hey day with this when the administration appears in court for the hearing on the stay.

I saw that yesterday, good news. In a side note, I have big problems with the feds “giving” the state authority as if they were the source and not the other way around, but still, good news on this particular issue.

No stay is needed. He’s saying that OSHA doesn’t even have direct authority in 22 states including AZ, which have their own worker safety systems. A stay would only be needed if OSHA had jurisdiction.

Yes, but if it’s not from “above” one-size-fits-all, then the free market can fix it. Businesses with their head out of their azz can compete on that basis, and will end up with employees also lacking rectal-cranial inversion. I love a happy ending! The dumbazz employees can then happily work for the dumbazz companies till they fail from a lack of brains. Win-win.

The corporatist ugligarchs were begging the Presidigrinch, most merciful, not to destroy their Xmas Profits, thus the stay of execution. How many filthy, deplorable, unclean, trumpster peasants will now survive because of it? Oh the hugemanatee! We were told, by the Senile One he was becoming impatient. We were told the climate goddess couldn’t wait!

In Los Angels there was a protest of the vacinne and mask etc by thousands of healthcare people and fireman and police and others. You could see the number of people but KABC said hundreds. They lie by omission.
