Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said that Texas should secede if Democrats "fundamentally" destroy the U.S. but added that "he is not ready to give up on America yet."
"If the Democrats end the filibuster, if they fundamentally destroy the country, if they pack the Supreme Court, if they make D.C. a state, if they federalize elections if they massively expand voter fraud there may come a point where it's hopeless," Cruz said while speaking at an event at Texas A&M last month.
The Republican senator was responding to a question posed by a student in the crowd who asked him how he felt about the Texas secessionist movement.
"I think Texas has a responsibility to the country, and I'm not ready to give up on America. I love this country," he said.
He also added that Texas has an added responsibility to the U.S. as it is currently "an amazing force keeping America from going off the cliff" and "keeping America grounded in the values that built this country."
However, he emphasized that the country isn't at that point where Texas would secede and while he doesn't support the movement, he "understands the sentiment behind it."
"We're not there yet, and if there comes a point where it's hopeless, then I think we take NASA, we take the military, we take the oil," the Texan said.
He jokingly added that popular podcaster Joe Rogan would be president of the newly formed state if it were independent.
The Texas Nationalist Movement or "Texit" has said their mission is "to secure and protect the political, cultural and economic independence of the nation of Texas and to restore and protect a constitutional Republic and the inherent rights of the people of Texas."
The movement's official website stated that this "means that Texans determine our own laws and not 2.5 million unelected bureaucrats in Washington. It means that we get a government that begins and ends at the borders of Texas."
I would consider relocating to the New Republic of Texas. Even if they were to make that Immigrant Ted Cruz it’s first President.
What is happening in these absurdly labeled ‘Blue States’ is beyond tolerable.
Here, the ‘Republican Governor’ of Massachusetts is apparently endorsing an increase of 18 Cents on a gallon of gasoline. Is it rational to be OK that nonsensically mislabeled Rats such as Baker should be supported in their increased taxes because they refer to themselves as Republicans?
This stuff is going on almost everywhere. The time to make a move on all of this thievery is upon us.
After the tax revolt that should occur once the Bidenites start paying those who broke our laws by illegally entering our country (while it is still our country) $450,000 or $900,000 / family with our hard-earned tax dollars and the Feds try to confiscate our bank accounts / seize our property etc. the only logical recourse will be secession and then CW II.
Thanks for the mention.
“Ted says we have to wait until the Democrats get everything they want and then it’s hopeless. And then we’d still have to leave in a Constitutional way.”
If the DemonRats get everything they want, we will be disarmed and unable to leave. Right now, we can leave anytime we want, and if they want to fight, we can defeat them.
Oh boy I can follow in the footsteps of Davy Crockett.
“Huh?”
If Texas were to secede, the DemonRats would like to stop us, even if it required starting a war, but they have destroyed the US military.
Texas has a clause in its constitution stating that it can not only secede but can split into five states. But the argument is that the Civil War made that clause inoperative.
Once serious action is taken towards secession, the lawyers will get kicked out of the room.
This would be like the Founding Fathers saying “oh, gee, we don’t want to disobey British law. We need a legal opinion...”
We are already in a hopeless situation. America is finished. Trump was our last hope.
This talk of secession is silly. The CW showed what happens when states secede. It didn’t end well last time. A second try would likely end up worse. As in mushroom clouds worse. Power never gives up power voluntarily. So I’ll take a pass on the secession suicide pact, thanks.
What IS likely to happen, and is probably happening now is something of a cultural divorce.
If the ultimate objective is freedom to live as you see fit, then who cares what the political structure looks like so long as the objective is realized?
If it got to the point ( and I do not think it will) where leaving the US was beyond desirable but had become the only viable option other than total federal fascism, Texas, as well as many other States would be far beyond asking permission.
One must also consider human nature.
You are commanding a tank division. You have to chose between handing over command to an officer of the Republic of Texas and finding your way back to Blue lines (if your men "allowed" you to walk away) OR turning that division around and proceeding with your men to defend the new northeastern border.
Handing it over means a life for you and your family under the fascist boot of D.C. socialists/communists being directed by the communist Chinese.
Turning the division around and proceeding with your men to the new northeastern border means a life for you and your family enjoying freedom and prosperity in the Republic of Texas.
The same with wing commanders in the Air Force and TANG.
The same with folks at a certain facility in northwest Texas and the fine folks just down the road at Goodfellow.
And it is not just Texas.
Think TX, OK, AR, LA,MS, Al, GA, FL, SC, NC, TN, MO, KS, KT, IN, OH, WV.
Then move north through the upper mid-west NE, IA, SD, ND, WY, MT, ID.
All of them solid red States dotted with supply chain dependent blue cities.
Let us not forget the proven concept of MAD. Plenty of folks in the red states that know exactly how to maintain such devices.
Throw in asserts in the blue states that are manned with personal FROM red states that swore an oath to the Constitution, not Brandon / Pelosi /Schumer little bammy DC.
Yeah, human nature is "a hell of a drug" when the alternative is a "life" for you and your family under the fascist boot of D.C. socialists/communists.
The blue prog cities will screech and riot for a little while but they will soon listen to the reasoned argument that an empty belly brings to the table.
Look to the trucking industry for guidance in that area.
Not an easy exercise but it beats eating boiled shoe leather at Valley Forge.
.
Yep, but honestly our opponents have already killed millions, they are just doing the death march like national camps, yea get a shower
it was part of their agreement to join up... if I remember correctly.
not that the feds would abide by any agreement that limited their power... look what they have done to the US constitution....
The SEC needs to meet at the governor level to do the proper checks and balances. We may need to leave Louisiana out until they wise up.
“I suspect Cruz would insist that it be done by amending the constitution rather than war. I think if it were done that way then there would be no war.”
The Constitution will never be amended to allow this, so it’s a nonissue.
No, that's a myth. As is the suggestion that Texas can split into up to five states at will. That may have been true prior to being admitted to the union but once admitted they are governed by the same Constitution as the other states.
He’s a true politician. Can’t tell what he’s really for.
Mostly he’s for keeping his job, just like everyone else in DC.
I think its the only way to proceed, however, do Texans have the stomach for it. Hopefully what would happen is Florida and other states would join a new confederacy. Still I’m not optimistic that it would ever happen, no matter how bad it gets.
