I would fully support Texas' right to self-determination although I fear it would begin CW2 as the feds would never allow it...

Well it’s already the beginnings of a Civil War with all the edicts of a tyrannical Federal Gov.
To: RandFan

My thought exactly — an invitation to the Feds to initiate a civil war. Picture our incontinent president in a stovepipe hat.

Is there not a provision from the beginning of Texas’ statehood that they could leave the union at any point they wish?

28th Amendment: a process for removing States from the Union.
Shouldn’t be that hard to get 38 legislatures to pass it: go to the blue states and tell them they can remove TX; go to the red states and tell them they can remove CA.

Another hit piece by the Hill.
Cruz never specifically said this.

This is the best thing Ted has ever said. He’s come a long way from Horse 🐴 Face.

If it comes to that, Texas wouldn’t be alone.
God forbid that we can’t settle our differences peacefully.

Another hit piece by the Hill. Cruz never specifically said this. He actually did say this in a roundabout way in a live town hall. I heard him.
To: Pilgrim's Progress
No - the Supremes said so in Texas v White. It'll take an amendment.

I fear it would begin CW2 as the feds would never allow it... The leftist social engineers have already divided the country - not on regional lines, but they have divided state against statel, county against county, urban vs. rural on ideological lines. This time their enemy would be spread out everywhere.
Moreover, America has a vast, bloated, lumbering bureaucracy weighed down by massive debt, based in urban areas. One kick and a massive currency and debt crisis ensues. Fed.gov will be able to support its own existence. Urban, blue areas would be the first to fail.

"If the Democrats end the filibuster, if they fundamentally destroy the country, if they pack the Supreme Court, if they make D.C. a state, if they federalize elections if they massively expand voter fraud there may come a point where it's hopeless," Cruz said while speaking at an event at Texas A&M last month. That is their wish list. If it comes to pass it's all over for The Republic.

I don’t think so. The state was admitted with the provision that it could be divided into as many as five different states if it wanted to. There’s some discussion about whether this is just what any state could do if Congress approves, or if the provision is Congressional “pre-approval” for dividing the state when ever it wants.

It sounds more like he’s saying that he doesn’t want Texas to secede.

Would it be a secession if Texas was annexed? Would it be a de-annexation?

Yeah—I have never been a fan of Ted, but his comments seemed very reasonable. It sounds like he has given this a lot of thought.
I am impressed.
