Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has officially filed his paperwork to run for a second term in 2022.

The Republican governor’s statement of candidacy was filed on Friday, but didn’t become visible in the state’s public database until Monday. DeSantis said at a Monday morning press conference that a formal campaign kickoff will be forthcoming.

“It’s more of a formality to open a campaign committee,” he said. “We won’t do any public announcements until after the Special Session but you have to prepare for these things.”

I think DeSantis should get another term under his belt in Florida before running for POTUS.

As a Floridian: 100% unequivocally agree. We don’t want him to go.

I’d personally much prefer he run for POTUS in 2024.

And now is when the smear machine goes into action. It will hide reality while it attempts to create a false image of him, which all the media will pick up and treat as if it were true.

It will consist of White supremacy, racism and homophobia, plus whatever mileage they can get from a couple of bimbos creating a story of him raping them in 1956 or so.

Yay! I’m glad he’s continuing to keep Florida safe!

There’s a lot of people who are disappointed that he’s not running for some higher office and I have to say to them: it’s not too late to move here to the Sunshine state and help vote for DeSantis!!

But think about it, the Florida race will be the big event of 2022. DeSantis is the Rats #1 target, they are going to throw everything they can at him. If he prevails, he’s going to be bullet-proof in 2024, what else could they possibly do to him?

I agree with you. Per last weeks news the national rats are throwing in the towel and won’t financially support a candidate against him next year. I think Trump should pass the torch: DeSantis has the same ability to go after the press and the rats, is more focused, doesn’t have the baggage the media piled on Trump, doesn’t do mean tweets so as to give the vapors to the soccer moms, etc. I just pray for the health of Mrs DeSantis with her breast cancer

I hope Trump gives them a huge head fake -- raises suspicions that he's running so that the Democrats build their entire 2024 campaign strategy around "you don't have to vote for our candidate, just vote against Trump", and then pull the chair out from under them by declining to run.

They're already having that problem now. If you take Trump out of the equation, their agenda is so far left that the rest of the country is turning on them.

Valid points by both of you...

I would absolutely support Trump, but I also recognize that there are a certain percentage of voters who simply will not support him. It’s not fair or just, but the media/big tech/hollyweird/academia did their job well in demonizing him. I still think he won last time despite all of this, but here we are.

In an ideal world we would have MAGA on the ballot with a fresh face like DeSantis who has a great record with a softer image. It won’t stop the media from going all out to demonize him/her though but the media has lost much of their effectiveness by going all out hysterical on Trump.

Actually the DNC recently stated they are not funding a challenger because of Desantis’ popularity. They want to focus their money elsewhere. I hope they don’t change their minds!

DeSantis lacks Trump’s flair, but he has absolutely shown a Trumpian refusal to back down in the face of leftist attacks. He’s an Iraq War veteran, impeccable academic credentials, and is young enough to appeal to younger voters. I don’t think DeSantis would have been possible without Trump, but he’s almost like Trump 2.0 to me. None of the often unfair baggage, but almost all of the pluses. He’ll particularly help with the proverbial soccer moms who turned on Trump.

De Santis showed he will fight

Trump chose to let his enemies prevail rather than fight. He can deal but will not fight

He would be a landslide candidate. His record in Florida is pure MAGA, he is chippy enough to appeal to the MAGA warriors, and he has not been defined by the media. The thing I like most about him is that he has the certainty of Trump or Reagan. He does not back down on issues and is focused on substance (effectiveness) over style.

He is also well connected with the house GOP Freedom Caucus so he would be better able to get bills introduced.

Trump is in the best position of anyone politically in my life except for Reagan going for his second term. He would win and just think how much worse things will be in two years with the current clown show. He will be the King or the Kingmaker. However, if he can implement MAGA, do rallies, and stay engaged without subjecting his family to the non-stop attacks and drama, he may choose that.

It is hard to read. Many in his inner-circle seem quite convinced that he will run again. I am on board with him for the duration if he runs or if he chooses the person to implement his agenda.

C’mon bert.... the GOPe stabbed Trump in the back OVER AND OVER. The entire bureaucracy was against Trump.

If you think that man did not fight you were not paying attention.

I never saw anyone fight as hard for the average American as Trump. Given that he was often a one-man band it is amazing what he did accomplish. They lied, cheated, committed fraud, and used every hysterical thing possible to defeat him and even then he won.

Respectfully, your statement is not fair. Do I wish he had worked more on softening his image for political expediency? Sure. However, that is not him so I just accept it.

Outside of the “style points to win over soccer moms” issue you would never convince me that there has been someone who fought harder for my interest than Trump. It took a worldwide “pandemic” to defeat him because that is how they could change the election rules. Absent that, we are here today discussing who we want to succeed Trump.
