How one amendment halted gun violence research funding for decades (barf alert)

Gun violence is an endemic problem in the United States -- once again getting worse in some areas after many years of declines and persistent at high levels in others.

Despite being one of the leading causes of death, one thing that that's difficult to know is the scope of the problem, fueled in part by a more than a two-decade-long prohibition -- recently changed -- on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention using federal funds to "advocate or promote gun control."

It wasn't always this way -- the CDC in 1983 adopted a public health approach to gun violence.

""This is a solvable problem," Rosenberg said. "We can find out what are the patterns, what's the problem, we can find out the causes, we can find out what works to both reduce gun violence and protect gun rights."

“Gun violence” is largely a problem of young black men in Dem strongholds. They perpetrate far more shootings and killings than “white supremacists” - it isn’t even close.

The CDC was never banned from performing gun violence research.

It was banned from promoting gun control.

Dickey Amendment

The Dickey Amendment is a provision first inserted as a rider into the 1996 United States federal government omnibus spending bill which mandated that "none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) may be used to advocate or promote gun control."[1]

FBI stats show that minorities are victims of violent crimes way outside their representation in the general population. The same is true regarding the perpetrators of violent crimes...minorities responsible in numbers way outside their numbers in the population.

Guns aren’t engaging in violence. If the reporter had a modicum of integrity, he’d report that 3% of the population are responsible for over 50% of the homicides.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

So-called gun violence is not a disease so logic says it isn’t in the CDC’s purview. Criminal violence may well be thought of as disease, but one that mankind has yet to find humane ways to control and prevent.

CDC needs to focus on diseases, not firearms.

For those who may be scratching their heads wondering why the CDC is so interested in ‘gun violence’, the reason was that they were trying to make a play for gun control by calling gun violence an ‘epidemic’. That’s why they had to be stopped.

As to what the causes are - very simple:

1) Soros Prosecutors
2) Soros Judges
3) Soros District Attorneys

As to the solution to gun violence - very simple, do what NYC did and put felons in JAIL and keep them there.

Now, regarding the billions that I just saved them - how about spending a small amount of that on a credible study of Ivermectin?

FAKE News.

The amendment prohibits researchers from lobbying for gun control. You can find a number of CDC studies on firearms and gun violence. In fact Obama commissioned one and it was published by the CDC. So the banning of CDC research is just a talking point and a way of undoing the real issue of allowing medical researchers to get on soap boxes and lobby for gun controls.

Gun violence as a Public Health Issue should scare everyone. If you thought the emergency executive orders in the name of Public Heath regarding Covid exceeded the power of elected members of the Executive branches of federal and local governments, wait till you see what they will try to do to firearm.

Now, for the serious part. In the US, firearms suicides by handguns is the preferred method of suicide for most. This is a serious problem. Suicide and mental health hot-lines and danger signals should be in public educational materials and announcements. Our mental health support systems should be improved.

Many years ago a Study was done comparing Seattle, WA and Vancouver BC, Canada suicides and the use of firearms in suicides. It showed that suicide rates in both cities that are about 200 miles apart are almost the same. However, the number of firearm suicides in the US (aka Seattle) was much higher. The conclusion? If handguns are not available for suicide, then people will use poison, hanging, automotive carbon monoxide as a method to commit suicide.

Note that no one uses assault weapons for suicide, so that should not be a suicide public health issue. Assault weapons will be a child school shooting health issue to some, even though that really isn't true.

There’s a different federal agency whose responsibilities include mental health.

The CDC’s move is mission creep. They have nothing to do with mental health.

The CDC's advocacy of gun control under the guise of "public health" is just democrats trying to give legitimacy to their radical leftist positions by claiming their political desires are health issues. Obviously this isn't the case and the CDC was rightfully barred from using it's credentials as a health agency to advocate for political positions.

This has long term implications when authoritarians are allowed to corrupt agencies like the CDC for political purposes. A prime example is the COVID nonsense which has been blown all out of proportion by the democrats by politicizing the CDC and NIH. Another prime example is the EPA and "climate change" which will be used as a means to control and impoverish Americans.

If you scream WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE! and get some corrupted government science agency to support you it can be used as justification for almost anything you want to do to people. The Nazis would have been proud of what the U.S. has become.

This is partly why I am against any health related mandates.

You can make ANYTHING a health issue.

And once you give them the power to mandate in one area they will expand it to all others.

Everything including when you get up in the morning, who you marry, who you have children with can be made a public health issue.

The Eugenic policies are back. And as before they are wearing the mantel of "health".

ABC has been on an anti-gun tear for the last week. As bad as 1968 and 1969!

They constantly post in this dreck on Facebook where I can’t post, (FB Jail again) but I did go to their web site and found I could post there bypassing FB.

Just posted over there again ABC not FB.
