The team behind the rescue of Cleo Smith were given a round of applause as they enjoyed a pint at a pub to celebrate the safe return of the four-year-old girl.
Nearly 50 officers, including forensics, data analysts and detectives, were given the hero's welcome by pubgoers as they packed into the Carnarvon watering hole.
The group was part of Taskforce Rodia - the team responsible for finally ending an 18-day long search mission that began when Cleo was allegedly kidnapped from her family tent at the remote Blowholes campsite in Western Australia on October 16.
The accused Terence Darrell Kelly, 36, has been charged with multiple offences including forcibly taking a child under 16.
Many members of the taskforce were parents meaning their investment in the search and rescue went beyond their police duties - for them, it was deeply personal.

The alleged perpetrator has already apparently been bashed by other prisoners while in custody at the small Carnarvon police station. There's criminals - and then there's something else.
It’s a feel good story for the globe.
Thanks.
It’s looking kind of bleak out here in deepest darkest Canada—highest vaccination rate in the world—with Newfoundland leading the way at 96% of those eligible.
No jab, no job, no EI.
I’m glad a dingo didn’t eat that baby!
"That **** ain't funny man. That's a true story..."
Amazing, the perp suffered more injuries while alone in a police jail. Wonderful, instant justice.
Honestly, that is pretty much the common Australian attitude to “the dingo got my baby” jokes. They’re not appreciated here. That was a terrible tragedy made worse by the state’s terrible treatment of a mother who turned out to be innocent.
Unfortunately with the recent heavy handed tactics these Aussie police employed against “right wing “ protesters I can’t help but think this was carefully orchestrated to do just what they want . Respect and honor returned. Maybe the fib helped them out with the details . Look deep for the deep state and don’t believe what wasn’t . Look beyond the smoke . You just been had . Right out of hollywood stuff . Watch the perp get disappeared . Next episode coming up .
I’m happy the other prisoners’ had a proper go on the scumbag.
OK... this is really getting me pissed now. The bullshit that Americans have been fed about what has been happening in Australia and how easily they have swallowed the propaganda is pissing me off.
There were some problematic instances in Australia - on the other side of the country, thousands of kilometres from where this happened and involving entirely different police forces. Many of the incidents that did happen have been exaggerated out of all proportion or utterly misrepresented with selective video editing and voiceovers or written commentaries that don’t match the reality.
This is propaganda designed to try and split the US from one of its few allies and it seems to be working all too easily.
But whatever limited truth there is to it, the Western Australian Police Force who rescued this little girl do not deserve to be condemned because the Victorian Police Service had some officers who went too far.
Australia is six different virtually sovereign states. Acting as if they are all the same makes no more sense then condemning Alabama for crap that happened in Alaska.
I think the vast majority of people have no idea about the backstory.
Carnarvon, Western Australia, is 2000 miles - almost exactly - from Melbourne, Victoria, which is where most of the problematic incidents that have happened in Australia occurred. It’s a completely different state with a completely different state government, and completely separate police forces as well.
Victoria (where I live) has heavily restricted the rights of its citizens over the last year and a half. It hasn’t actually been quite as bad as it’s been exaggerated at times in America, but it has been bad enough to be a concern. Because of that there have been some demonstrations and some heavy handed policing of some of those demonstrations.
Western Australia, on the other hand, has basically let its citizens get on with life as pretty much normal for nearly all this period, because it just secured its border and has largely kept COVID out of the state with only a few very small outbreaks that were brought under control quickly. Because it hasn’t imposed many restrictions, there’s been very little demonstrations and relatively little policing of anything related to COVID.
Public health matters are entirely the responsibility of state governments under Australia’s constitution. The federal government has virtually no power in this domain, so looking at Australia as any sort of single entity when it comes to COVID makes virtually no sense. It’s state specific. And WA has been the least restrictive state. Not necessarily because their government is any better - but because they haven’t needed to do much beyond close their borders.
Thank you for your insight.
I know - I think most Americans who makes jokes about it, don’t even know there is a real story behind it. When The Simpsons make the joke, and Seinfeld makes the joke - well, people just repeat the joke.
But here in Australia, the Azaria Chamberlain debacle is still one of the biggest news stories in our history - both the initial disappearance, and then Lindy Chamberlain’s very, very long fight to clear her name of a conviction that came about because of prejudice, and incredibly sloppy forensic works (some sort of auto product being identified as ‘fetal blood’ by a lab...)
Hopefully he fell down the stairs a few times on the way to the booking room.

4 Nov: Sky Australia: Mark McGowan reveals the date Western Australia’s roadmap out of the COVID-19 pandemic will be released
Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan said the state government will release its long-awaited reopening roadmap on Friday.
by Bryant Hevesi
The state is the last jurisdiction in Australia to reveal how it will transition from a hard border approach to learning to live with the virus in the community...
Mr McGowan has previously said Western Australia’s border will remain closed to New South Wales, Victoria and Australian Capital Territory residents until “sometime in the first half of next year”.
He was coy when asked by a reporter if Western Australia residents should make travel plans to those three eastern jurisdictions over the Christmas holiday period.
“My advice to people is holiday in Western Australia, support local businesses and you’ll have a great time,” Mr McGowan said...
“A number of safeguards will still be in place to give greater certainty to West Australians that are approved travellers entering from NSW so that they can do so safely.”
***Those who are allowed back in Western Australia include:
certain senior Government officials;
certain active military personnel;
a member of the Commonwealth Parliament;
a person carrying out functions under a law of the Commonwealth;
a person carrying out a limited range of specialist functions; and
a person given approval by the State Emergency Coordinator or an authorised officer...
Approved travellers must be fully vaccinated, return a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure, self-quarantine for 14 days and have two further tests within that period.

I see comments today that Glenn Youngkin must be “deepstate”, as evidenced by the simple fact that he won an election.
Not everyone is bad. Not everything that happens is a false flag. It seems that many conservatives have reflexive desire to find a way to be unhappy about everything.
Terence Darrell Kelly.
It is understood that he was injured again in his cell overnight and was returned to the hospital on Thursday.
(Gee, I *wonder* how that could have happened?)
Social media posts reveal photos of Mr. Kelly holding two Bratz toy dolls.
Another image shows a room full of toy figures.
(Right up there with homemade taxidermy experiments as creepy.)
Yeah - not sure how true it is (I’d like to hope) but it’s being suggested by some people here that he may have treated the little girl like one of his dolls, and for that reason not have harmed her in the way we all fear most. Of course, just being kidnapped for two and a half weeks is bad enough, but I’d like to hope he didn’t do far, far worse things.
Makes you wonder how much of it is sincere, how much of it is trollery, and what, if any part is PsyOps.
