The school system works as intended. It makes sure that children are taught that White people are evil, which is what their objective is. They’re not concerned with literacy or mathematics.
Abolish the public schools, and watch what Americans can do when they are a free people responsible for their own children.
Ever since Carter established the federal Department of Education it has been steadily usurped responsibilities from the state and locals and the quality of education has steadily declined.
Get rid of the DOE and let the states and locals take care of our children. Our children don’t belong to the government.
The author takes aim at the easiest target in education, the teachers union.
But the union has nothing to do with how the core subjects are being watered down. And it has nothing to do with the appalling lack of discipline in the classrooms. The guilty folks here are the school boards. They alone set policy.
Does a teachers union deserve any criticism? Yes, in a way because they will often protect poor teachers. But that’s their job, just as it’s a defense lawyer’s job to protect sketchy clients.
He should know ..it’s mostly his party that is purposely making it fail.
WE do not belong to the government.
Yep. How does the US compare to other countries in testing when one demographic is removed? How about two?
Yes. The Dept of Education, so called, is a joke and a humongous waste of money.
They’ll all get jobs in HR.
You need to educate yourself. Teachers unions heavily influence school board elections, especially the head of school boards, most of whom have union backgrounds.
It is voter apathy that allows this.
The system to pit school board against union should work, but it has become a symbiotic relationship that drains taxpayers and fosters an agenda.
> You need to educate yourself. <
I don’t know about a lot of things. But I know about teacher unions, as I was an involuntary member of one for almost 30 years.
> Teachers unions heavily influence school board elections, especially the head of school boards, most of whom have union backgrounds. <
True that. But a lot of other special-interest groups do the same. Anyway, here’s the odd thing. I know a few retired teachers who became school board members. All of a sudden they stopped worrying about effective teaching and classroom discipline. Instead they became social justice warriors.
I can’t see how the union can be blamed for that. As you noted, it’s a voter apathy problem.
I guess that depends on what your definition of Education is. Education is not the same as Indoctunation.
“Failing” implies that it used to work. A rational person might consider “reforming” back to the way things were.
Since the Immigration Act of 1990, which enabled the importation of 65,000 high tech science workers per year, America's leaders have decided to loot the rest of the planet of intellectual resources. The technological level of the US has been decoupled from its educational capability. This may be an additional reason why american education has been permitted to rot.
Q. What are the four words that make an educator and a Democrat tremble with fear?
A. “I am a parent.”
You have no idea.
They are marked "present" every single day so the school doesn't lose the ADA $$ and to keep up staffing (which is calculated as to how many students are enrolled, student numbers drop, pink slips appear).
I say this as a 33 year veteran of the public schools - but there are FReepers here who have told me I "don't know what I'm talking about."
I believe what you are saying.
When big bucks are involved, all organizations start acting like a back-street alley whore on a Friday night.
“Now, It’s Time to Act”
Fortunately, the bulk of us acted locally on a school bond “proposal” this week. These clowns thought they were going to do an end run around the local taxpayers by building a new school via a bond.
The passage of this bond would have allowed the local district to “reset the clock” on their poor student performance record with respect to the state of Texas. As it currently stands, the taxes paid to this school district are about two thirds of our yearly tax bill.
We are slowly gaining control of our school board but it’s a tough row to hoe. Our biggest problem is the ongoing degentrification within the community over the last several years. Next up is to get some good people into the mayor and city councils positions assuming it’s not too late.
