The school system works as intended. It makes sure that children are taught that White people are evil, which is what their objective is. They’re not concerned with literacy or mathematics.

Abolish the public schools, and watch what Americans can do when they are a free people responsible for their own children.

Ever since Carter established the federal Department of Education it has been steadily usurped responsibilities from the state and locals and the quality of education has steadily declined.

Get rid of the DOE and let the states and locals take care of our children. Our children don’t belong to the government.

The author takes aim at the easiest target in education, the teachers union.

But the union has nothing to do with how the core subjects are being watered down. And it has nothing to do with the appalling lack of discipline in the classrooms. The guilty folks here are the school boards. They alone set policy.

Does a teachers union deserve any criticism? Yes, in a way because they will often protect poor teachers. But that’s their job, just as it’s a defense lawyer’s job to protect sketchy clients.

I guess that depends on what your definition of Education is. Education is not the same as Indoctunation.

“Failing” implies that it used to work. A rational person might consider “reforming” back to the way things were.

wholeheartedly agree with: "Any country that out-educates us will out-compete us."

Since the Immigration Act of 1990, which enabled the importation of 65,000 high tech science workers per year, America's leaders have decided to loot the rest of the planet of intellectual resources. The technological level of the US has been decoupled from its educational capability. This may be an additional reason why american education has been permitted to rot.

Imagine how many "ghost" students, as they call them, are in all the other schools that haven't yet been investigated?

You have no idea.

They are marked "present" every single day so the school doesn't lose the ADA $$ and to keep up staffing (which is calculated as to how many students are enrolled, student numbers drop, pink slips appear).

I say this as a 33 year veteran of the public schools - but there are FReepers here who have told me I "don't know what I'm talking about."

“Now, It’s Time to Act”

Fortunately, the bulk of us acted locally on a school bond “proposal” this week. These clowns thought they were going to do an end run around the local taxpayers by building a new school via a bond.
The passage of this bond would have allowed the local district to “reset the clock” on their poor student performance record with respect to the state of Texas. As it currently stands, the taxes paid to this school district are about two thirds of our yearly tax bill.
We are slowly gaining control of our school board but it’s a tough row to hoe. Our biggest problem is the ongoing degentrification within the community over the last several years. Next up is to get some good people into the mayor and city councils positions assuming it’s not too late.

Education reform could propel the GOP into a major majority party if they move on it decisively. Charter Schools, vouchers, school choice, competition and significant reforms for public schools is a winning issue. It could also defeat the Dem party forever if the GOP can properly explain to Blacks that this is their ticket out of the hood and into mainstream society.

I remember seeing a breakout by race of educational statistics in the US: whites performed as well as the top half of Western European students, more or less what you would expect. American Asians matched even higher East Asian levels. Blacks and Hispanics dragged the national averages way down.

“...41% of high school students have a GPA of less than 1.0 on their report cards. That equates to Ds and Fs in important classes such as math, science and history.”

Perfect little democrats!

This crap gets published continually, ie that US students are ranked poorly compared to other countries. I looked up the testing scores by race of the students. US students who are Asian rank right up there with Asian students in Asia. US students who are white rank in the top 5 or so in the world. US students who are black and those who are Hispanic drag the average down.
