An elderly man who died as a result of COVID-19 was recently dissected in front of a live paying audience in Oregon without his family's consent, according to a local news report.
The macabre public autopsy of 98-year-old David Saunders' body took place on Oct. 17 in a Marriott ballroom in Portland as a part of the traveling "Oddities and Curiosities Expo," KING-TV reported.
According to its website, the expo often features dark art and sideshow performances and markets itself as a leading community "for lovers of the strange, unusual, and bizarre."
Family members of Saunders, including his widow, only learned of the morbid event after seeing it covered by local news and were reportedly shocked at the revelation.
They had been under the impression that when they donated their loved one's body to Las Vegas-based company Med Ed Labs, the body would be used for private medical research — not in a traveling freak show.
Instead, Saunders' body ended up in the hands of DeathScience.org founder Jeremy Ciliberto, who in turn used it as a centerpiece at the expo. Attendees reportedly paid $500 to witness the autopsy in person.
"It makes me really feel saddened that this gentleman was not given the dignity and the respect that he deserved and what he thought and his family thought that would be happening to his body," Mike Clark, a funeral director in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, told the Seattle news outlet.
Clark reportedly handled the preparation of Saunders' body before it was handed off to Med Ed Labs, a private company that solicits body donations for research. He, too, recounted being shocked after learning where the body ended up.
"I was totally horrified," Clark said. "Our whole staff was horrified that this is what had happened to a gentleman that he and his family thought that his body was going for the advancement of medical students."
According to KING, a representative for Med Ed Labs has since claimed that Ciliberto was "beyond" dishonest in his communications with the company, noting that Ciliberto said he would be using the body for a medical class.
Ciliberto has reportedly denied any wrongdoing, arguing, "I can guarantee that that man knew his body would be used for medical research."
Following news of the live autopsy, Ciliberto announced that a similar event would be canceled in Seattle.
"We feel that this was not respectful and certainly not ethical," Kimberly DiLeo, chief medical death investigator for the Multnomah County medical examiner's office, added. She is reportedly leading an investigation into the incidents.
WTH?!
My sentiments exactly!
I don’t see how this isn’t the definition of first degree abuse of a corpse in Oregon.
ORS 166.087(b)
Abuse of corpse in the first degree
...
(b)Dismembers, mutilates, cuts or strikes a corpse.
(2)Abuse of corpse in the first degree is a Class B felony.

When you give your body to science you have no clue what they’re going to do with it. Heck they could be feeding it to caged animals for all you know.
Nothing but reprobates. Our country is at an all time low in American history. There is no getting it back except by Divine Intervention by God.
Truer words were never spoken.
Mutilation of a corpse is a State Jail Felony in Texas
What hotel would OK something like this? I wouldn’t have anything to do with that Marriott location knowing now what horrendous perversity they allowed on their property, and in fact this causes me to question the entire Marriott brand.
This is the result of body donation. The days of medical student use are over. Bodied are skinned and the skin is sold. Decapitated and the heads are flown to plastic surgeon conferences so they can practice new techniques. Arms and legs used by other businesses. Bodies are an expensive commodity.
There was a book about India in the 50s that discussed how the protagonist while alive sold his body so it could be turned into a skeleton after his death and sold .
India made this practice illegal because it was so dehumanizing.
We don’t sell we let corporations profit for free.
The medical industry is not your friend.
This in a country that had plasticized infused corpses traveling the country as art science?

There is a site in the mid Atlantic area where human bodies are left to rot in all sorts of circumstances to research how bodies rot for police research.
The Overton Window. If we keep whetting the natural appetite for depravity, we will get more than we can bear. This is the power of nedia.
When the movie the purge came out some folks asked why i wouldn’t watch it because i love horror movies. The simple fact, i do not open the door to evil. Everytime i have done it, i have had unacceptable consequences. Even worse, some of those affected my children, leading to a multigenerational problem. I cannot change the past, but i can stop more by simply surrounding myself with whatever is true, honorable,, right, lovely, of good reupte, excellent and worthy of praise.

Texas has two body farms, one is the world’s largest

I remember a few years ago a family donated their Mother’s body for “Alzheimer’s research”, only to find she was placed in a chair, and blown up by the US military for bomb research.
Which public schools attended? If not, why not? Perhaps they weren’t informed of the showing? If that’s the case, will someone be held accountable?
