ere's What You Need to Remember: On day three, the Thai pilots “shot down” 19 J-11s for a loss of three Gripens. Over the final three days of the war game, the Thais killed 22 Chinese jets and lost three of their own.
A 2015 war game in Thailand underscored the enduring flaws in Chinese aerial-warfare tactics. Despite flying a modern fighter type, Chinese fighter pilots in Thailand were vulnerable to long-range attacks and slow to react to aggressive tactics.
Exercise Falcon Strike 2015, which ran at Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base for two weeks in mid-November 2015, was the first-ever joint exercise between the Chinese and Thai air forces.
The Chinese brought J-11 fighters to the war game. The Thai air force operates F-16s from Korat, but the for the war game the Thai air arm sent Gripen fighters from Surat Thani Air Force Base.
The Thai air force operates 12 JAS-39C/D Gripens.
For seven days straight the J-11s tangled with the Gripens. The J-11, which is a Chinese variant of the Russian Su-27, proved to be the superior dogfighter, a Chinese participant in the exercise explained in a presentation at China’s Northwestern Polytechnical University on Dec. 9, 2019. But in Thai hands the Gripen was a better long-range shooter.

One must consider that these war games underestimated the Chinese.
It’s not 2015 anymore and the Chicoms have probably upped their training and tactics since then.
China has no allies. They would lose to the world if the US sat it out. Who do they think they are? Mars? Hat tip to the GOAT Norm McDonald.
I keep thinking about the same thing. China is so belligerent to virtually everyone in their neighborhood, and getting more so by the day, that if they ever started a war they would be surrounded by enemies, and that’s before the U.S. showed up. Maybe they believe Russia would come to their aid, but I have a tough time believing Putin would get involved. Aside from its nuclear forces, Russia doesn’t have much of a military anymore, and I don’t think they really want to help the CCP, who may turn on them as well if given the opportunity.
It’s posturing by Xi. He’s in a very bad situation and trying to retain power against very tough party opposition. He’s flailing about trying to create external distractions. He’s a monster and the worst thing that ever happened to China since Mao (his hero).
I don’t think it’s working. China is bankrupt. To think the Yuan will be the new reserve currency is mad. The US currency is crap too, but it’s the best the world has right now.
Evergrande is the tip of the spear.
Look for ABBA to be banned in China soon.
You make a number of excellent points.
Thanks. Living in China’s shadow has given me a margin of insight.
I think the Chinese people are growing tired of his antics when they have massive flooding, massive food shortages, massive debt and a shrinking economy. No matter what you read.
They don’t want war. They want their bellies full.
When and if China ends our power in the Far East they will turn on the Russians and there will be a nuclear exchange between the two thug nations.
Since when when does a Communist government respect the wishes of the masses?
I think what most people overlook is what happens when conventional military equipment and tactics are totally upended and some nation brings a really new warfighting concept to battle....
On December 7, 1941 the Japanese totally changed the nature of Naval Warfare...
The Germans totally changed the nature of warfare by introducing the concept of the blitzkrieg and totally overwhelmed the British, French and to a large degree the Russians.....
We know both Germany and Japan ended up losing but not without delivering real loses beforehand...
What if China did something similar...
Suppose China unleashed another pandemic tailored to specific races and nationalities....
While simultaneously taking out the satellite capabilities of the USA and it’s allies....
Then unleash either a cyber attack that took down the infrastructure of a target nation..
If not a cyber attack why not a EMP attack that destroyed digital infrastructure of a nation.....
If the Red chinese face Sweden , they would be forced to use nukes, but still would not eliminate Sweden's air net.

Since when does the US?
The point is that Xi has serious opposition in his party. There are a lot of powerful commies that want him out.
The commies want to retain power. Xi is compromising that in his quest for personal power over the party.
If you look at China’s history, they have an incredible record of violent overthrow that would make most nations blush.
I think China believes, probably correctly, that all they have to do is wait out Russia’s shrinking population for a while, and then when the time is right just start pushing here and there on the border, as they often do with India. They’ll just use their vast numbers to probe and prod at first, and then eventually invade a weakened Russia. At that point, Russia could be so weak that they just acquiesce to a gradual, non-violent colonization of some of their territory, rather than risk war with a huge adversarial army.
That is the one thing I know will NEVER happen. Never Ever.
That is happening now and you are correct. China has been passively occupying parts of Russia bordering them with Han Chinese. Russia knows this.
No idea how they will deal with it.
