Republican Gov. Greg Abbott (Texas) is in a virtual tie with Democrat Beto O'Rourke in a new poll released Monday that surveys voters on a possible gubernatorial race between the two.
O'Rourke is flirting with running for governor in an election that would take place one year from now.
The poll conducted by the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation (TxHPF) found that 44 percent of voters are in favor of Abbott remaining as governor of Texas while 43 percent are in favor of O'Rourke becoming governor. The remainder of respondents said they were either unsure or wanted a minor party candidate to be governor.

Other than Clayton Williams’ poor judgment, it must be remembered that in 1990, much of rural Anglo Texas was still Democratic, at least at the state and local levels. Other than the Permian Basin, the Panhandle, and the German Hill Country, the rural areas still held to traditional Democrats, due to the Southern tradition and the popularity of the New Deal and Great Society programs. Blue collar, white areas in the larger cities leaned Democratic as well. When you look at some of the Democrats of that era, such as Gib Lewis or John Montford, they were not liberals. Even Ann Richards was not as leftist as the current crop of Democrats.

Yeah, but in all fairness, Texas did just get another million plus voters from down south, so . . .

Assuming, I am, that both are campaigning hard for the illegal migrant vermin vote...
That’s 3-to-4 million votes just waiting their turn...
There is no longer any case law that stops them...

Beto O’Rourke would get every bit of that 43% this poll shows.
And that’s it.

True. But not today. Beto may have some loudmouth support, but the numbers simply aren’t there. And yeah ... Ann would be a conservative compared to Beto.
