Last week, the director of the United Nation's World Food Programme said if the world's top billionaires just donated a fraction of their worth, millions of people who are at risk of starving to death can be saved. Elon Musk, the second wealthiest person in the world, said he'd give up some of his wealth – only if he knows exactly where the money is going.
Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX who has an estimated net worth of $151 billion, according to Forbes, replied to a tweet questioning the group's figures. "If WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it," Musk wrote. "But it must be open source accounting, so the public sees precisely how the money is spent."
David Beasley, director of the World Food Programme, said on CNN last week that a "one-time" donation from the top 400 billionaires, whose net worths are ever growing, in the U.S. could help save the lives of 42 million people this year.
Beasley said the organization has systems in place for transparency and open source accounting. "Your team can review and work with us to be totally confident of such," he replied.
To which Musk replied: "Please publish your current & proposed spending in detail so people can see exactly where money goes. Sunlight is a wonderful thing."

He will not have to worry about providing a dime.
All UN money goes one place: the pockets of 3rd world despots and their lackeys.
The UN is only interested in the “give-a-fish” programs, where Elon should favor the “learn-to-fish” solutions to problems.
Accountability? That’s not fair......................
Well a lot of it has to go to liberal organizations, once the politicians get their share. And then those organizations will locate the proper liberal charities so that they can begin the work of locating the actual recipients. Once they are, work can begin deciding which foods meet the health guidelines set by other liberal organizations. All this will cost a lot of money, of course.
To which Musk replied: “Please publish your current & proposed spending in detail so people can see exactly where money goes. Sunlight is a wonderful thing.”
That is a BIG “if”.
Usually in the dictatorship countries, the despot redirects the supplies to himself and his henchmen and very little actually get to the starving citizens.
The UN is unwilling and unable to stop this.
He’ll solve the secrets of the universe before he ever gets a clear answer to that one.
I’m not so sure about that. I suspect some goes there but most goes to pols in 1st world countries.
That Musk is one smart cat. He should get some kind of Trump Prize for this move.
He simultaneously went on record saying:
1) That he will kick in meaningful dollars to fix the hunger
2) Pointed out that there is ZERO transparency in how the UN and most other “charities” operate
But he conditions his support ....

The UN is a bunch of crooks, and Elon knows it
Gotta love this guy sometimes.
I think it was a mistake on Elon’s part to even respond to this nutjob.
That’s right. You said it before I said it.
It’s never been a secret if one really wishes to know.
The way to “Fight world hunger” is to get the non-productive people to stop having babies.
So how come most of the money going to the UN ends up in the pockets of corrupt bureaucrats from first and third world countries?
Usually never gets past the govt bigs.
