(CNN)The judge in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, who fatally shot two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, made headlines last week by reiterating his longstanding rule of not allowing prosecutors to refer to people as "victims" before juries in his courtroom.
At the same time, Kenosha County Circuit Court Judge Bruce Schroeder said at a pretrial hearing that the men who were shot could be described as "looters" or "rioters" if the defense can show they engaged in such activity during protests after a police officer shot Jacob Blake in August 2020, leaving Blake paralyzed.

I haven’t commented on this case since it happened. However I do watch to see how things are going for this young man and hopeful for him a favorable outcome. Unfortunately attorneys want to win at all costs....they no longer seek the truth.
Pretty bold (and suicidal) move to run up on a man with a loaded AR. I wonder what kind of dope those people were on.
CNN’s Ray Sanchez is totally wrong in saying that Rittenhouse shot two “protestors”. As the video shows, they were “attackers”, not protesting anything. No posters, signs, T-shirts, etc on them that referred to any protest.
I thought Sanchez was a reasonable reporter but since he works for CNN, that is one assumption I’m flushing down the toilet.
So far, this judge has been pretty hard on the prosecutors lines of attack
I think he sees that they have a pretty weak case
And notice that they never mention, Blake, being arrested for sexual assault, resisted arrest and tried to stab the cop with a knife before being shot.
In a self defense trial, the defense is not allowed to bring up negative info about the attacker which the defendant had no knowledge of at the time.
The trial is all about: “Was the defendant justified, given the info the defendant had at the instant he shot the attacker? “
His words are final unless it’s not guilty…. Then it’s riots weeks and millions in damages.
Where ya been? Sanchez has soiled himself many times.
“Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time, is also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon while under the age of 18, a misdemeanor, according to court records. He pleaded not guilty.”
How can this even be a charge? If the trail is as adult how can juvenile charges be applied?
Very good call!
That one somehow slipped by me. I guess I get to decide if they want to tram as an adult or if they want to try them as a juvenile. They can’t do both.
I would hate to count how many persons UNDER 18 in Wisconsin own hunting guns.
That is incorrect. There is a specific exemption to allow evidence of the character of the attacker.
It is a very murky charge.
By the letter of the law, Rittenhouse is exempted, because he was 17 and carrying a rifle, not a concealable weapon.
Do you really think there’s going to be riots over three shot white guys?
Why not? It’s not the facts that matter. What matters is Kyle is a villain to a significant portion of ignorant Americans. He is being portrayed as white supremacist, despite the facts and if you don’t think people will riot over a “white supremacist” getting off …. Then I’m not sure you have the finger on the pulse of these virtue signalling douchebags.
Yes, but Blake is not involved in this trial, other than the “mertyr” for which they were rioting.
“The judge in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, who fatally shot two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin,...”
Dang.... the judge shot two protesters as well?
This is very common and in some places it is actual law in sex offense cased.
And the only problem with that is that it should be that way across the board with ALL crimes.
There ARE cases where a crime was obviously committed and needed nit be established per say(child abduction and murder, i.e.) where it’s appropriate to refer to them as victims.
Then it’s solely about who committed the crime. Jmo
