The Only Thing Biden Has Left Is Trump
Townhall.com ^ | October 29, 2021 | David Harsanyi

This week, the president took a trip to Virginia to try to help salvage the gubernatorial prospects of fellow Washington lifer Terry McAuliffe. resident Joe Biden used the appearance to liken the GOP gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin to Jan. 6 rioters, to lie about Republicans supporting "book bans" and to attempt to goad former President Donald Trump into coming to Virginia. (Mission accomplished? Perhaps not.)

Biden wants to talk about one person these days, and that person isn't Biden. Then again, what does he possibly have to brag about? Shutting down COVID? More Americans have died from the disease during his presidency than his predecessor's, even with the emergence of vaccines. "I will not shut down the country," Biden promised during his campaign. "I will shut down the virus."

Now, of course coronavirus isn't really the president's fault. But since Biden had no compunction blaming Trump personally for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of citizens, no one can fault voters for using the same standard of culpability now.

Is Biden going to brag about overseeing what promises to be the weakest economic recovery since the last time he was put in charge of such things? Rather than looking for ways to create more opportunities for American workers, the president has been clamoring to put millions of them on the dole.

Is the president going to talk about the border? Is he once again going to explain how high inflation is actually a positive development for most consumers? Is he going to brag about his foreign policy? When was the last time an American president abandoned hundreds of U.S. citizens to a terror regime? After 13 service members were murdered by terrorists in Kabul, due in part to his administration's stark incompetence, we proceeded to accidentally kill seven children in retaliation. The terrorists disappeared only slightly faster than the media coverage.

No, Biden is going to talk about Trump.

It's worth mentioning, as well, that while Democrats were in a constant state of feigned dismay over the lack of decorum during the Trump years -- Biden often promised to "restore decency" to the White House -- they are just as guilty of corroding our public discourse.

On Youngkin, for example, Biden said, "Extremism can come in many forms. It can come in the rage of a mob driven to assault the Capitol. It can come in a smile and a fleece vest." It isn't surprising to hear unhinged pundits conflating the Jan. 6 rioters with Republicans who have never uttered a word of support for the attack on the Capitol, but coming from the president of the United States, a president whose campaign was grounded on the promise of mending a frayed nation and normalizing political behavior, it's particularly ugly.

This kind of rhetoric, though, is nothing new for Biden. In 2012, before Trump had allegedly coarsened our politics, the then-vice president told a crowd of African Americans that the milquetoast Republican and presumptive nominee Mitt Romney, a man who had never embraced any form of racism, much less allied himself with segregationists, was going to "put you all back in chains" because he was in favor of some mild deregulation and economic reforms. Well, Youngkin is apparently similarly disposed. His principal issue has been parents and their lack of control over school curricula. If you're looking for an election conspiracy theorist in the Virginia gubernatorial race, though, you need not look any further than McAuliffe, who doesn't seem to believe a Republican has won a presidential contest since 1988.

But, as the New York Times pointed out, even McAuliffe barely, if ever, mentions the former president in his ads or speeches. Biden's appearance might fly in deep-blue northern Virginia, and it may or may not work in bringing Trump to the state, but it's unlikely to save his presidency.

The more Americans get to know Biden, the less they like him. And the less they like him, the more he's compelled to talk about Trump.

The more Biden talks about Trump, the more Trump’s approval goes up and the more people miss Trump. Keep mumbling about Trump, Brandon.

It’s the more Biden messes up and the more people are unhappy. If things were going well he could talk about Trump as much as his handlers want.

Trump ran on his own successes a d touted them at every opportunity, justifiably so.

Biden has to run on (or endorse others) bashing Trump.

What a contrast.

People often vote against a candidate as much as they vote for one. That was the case in 2020 when Trump’s Jerk Personality created millions of votes for Biden even with those who would normally support Trump based on his policies.

No doubt there was also massive voting fraud against Trump too. If Trump stays out of the public eye and holds his tongue except when a push back is truly warranted, he will win in 2024. But I doubt that he can do it. His Narcissistic Personality Disorder wont let him.

You nailed it. He never helped himself when he tweeted or over exposed himself. biden certainly seems to be going overly the other way and that isn’t helping him any either. biden is in a lose-lose situation though, he can’t make himself too visible or he’ll lose even more support.

“More Americans have died from the disease during his presidency than his predecessor’s, even with the emergence of vaccines.”

Is that true? I guess so!

“According to Johns Hopkins University’s data on COVID-19 deaths, since Jan. 1, there have been approximately 353,000 deaths from the pandemic. This is about a thousand more COVID-19 deaths than in all of 2020.

That is to say, more people have died from COVID-19 under President Joe Biden than under former President Donald Trump.”

But, as the New York Times pointed out, even McAuliffe barely, if ever, mentions the former president in his ads or speeches.

However McAwful's democratic henchmen mailed out a glossy in Fairfax county endorsing Youngkin, which was all Trump endorsements. They are banking on Trump Derangement but I'm not sure it will work.

Yesterday, I watched the excellent--even magnificent--1930 film of Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front, directed by Lewis Milestone, with Lew Aryes in an unforgettable performance as Paul, the young man who volunteers to go to war only to discover all its horrors and how he had been misled by the general propaganda and mass brainwashing sweeping through Germany at the outbreak of World War I, especially his Professor, who shamed and induced his students into volunteering.

What struck me most was the similarities between the Professor and American educators today, from kindergarten through universities.

The Professor, who appears in the beginning and the end of the movie, spews out propaganda to his students, oblivious--and indifferent--to its mendacity (just as American educators do today), inciting them to action which will prove destructive and self-destructive. The young men, his students, excited by his indoctrination, rush to volunteer for the war!

In the end, when Paul returns to his classroom, in military uniform, sickened by the horrors of war and aware of the truth about it and the truth of how he and his friends had been misled, the Professor expects Paul to join his propaganda. When Paul speaks the truth about the horrors of war, the Professor is outraged and flabbergasted and tries to silence Paul. The Professor's brainwashed students stand and shout accusations of treason at Paul, calling him a traitor. Realising that none of them will accept truth, Paul leaves.

How alike are the German schools just before World War I and the US schools of 2021!

The German schools precipitated the horrors of World War I, the Nazi Regime, and World War II.

What horrors are today's benighted American Professors precipitating?

Good observations. It is similar. It’s why we need an overhaul of the failed public school systems with competition and vouchers. We’ve put it off too long. It needs to be a top 5 priority in the GOP plank. It needs a short term strategy and it needs to be done.
