You can't stop the Global Warming Trend anymore than they could have stopped the Medieval Warm Period (roughly 900 to 1300 AD) or the Roman Warm Period (the time of Christ). And we ought to all be glad we don't live during the cool Dark Ages (roughly 300 to 900 AD) or the Little Ice Age (1300 to mid/late 1800's AD) when crop yields were low, rain was less predictable, and plagues increased.
If people who lived during the Little Ice Age are in Heaven now looking at us caterwauling about warming they'd think we'd lost our minds. And they'd be right.

People are likely to believe any sort of thing if there’s nothing really at stake for them. If you tell someone that a new planet has been discovered orbiting Alpha Centauri, typically that information is accepted without challenge. But if they’re told “Pay me $100,000 for this patent medicine, and it will add 10 years to your life”, they’ll be full of doubts, to say the least.
