Should people with natural immunity be exempt from vaccine mandates? New bill introduced in Congress argues yes. Health experts say no.

COVID-19 vaccine mandates shouldn’t apply to people with immunity acquired through infection, suggest sponsors of the ‘’Natural Immunity Is Real Act.”

Experts on bioethics and immunology disagree, and note that there is little to no debate in the scientific community about the existence of natural immunity, gained by infection from exposure to disease, rather than by vaccination, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many studies suggest natural immunity fades over time, and a vaccine improves immunity in people who have already had COVID-19.

“This is bad science, dangerous policy and saddest of all, ideology tricked out as ethics,” said Kenneth Goodman, director of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy and the Florida Bioethics Network.

The bill, introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday by Republican Rep. Diana Harshbarger, asks that federal regulations take into account natural immunity to COVID-19. Discussion by the bill’s sponsors indicates it is one of the latest objections to COVID-19 vaccine mandates in the U.S.

Tension is especially high in Florida, where Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday announced he would call a special session of the Legislature in November to ban local governments and agencies from mandating COVID-19 vaccines. He has also threatened to sue President Joe Biden’s administration over its mandate for some businesses to vaccinate or test workers for COVID-19. In the meantime, multiple Florida congressmen endorsed this bill, which is unlikely to pass in the Democrat-controlled House. The bill has also been introduced in the Senate.

“No American should be forced to choose between getting the COVID vaccine or keeping their job,” said Florida’s eighth district Rep. Bill Posey. Posey and Rep. Daniel Webster, Florida’s 11th district representative, are co-sponsoring the bill in the house alongside nine other Republican congressmen

An August CDC study suggests people who have had COVID-19 and are not vaccinated are more than twice as likely as people who are fully vaccinated to be reinfected with the virus. Some studies suggest people who are infected and then get vaccinated could have “super immunity,” though these studies warn against infecting yourself with the virus to get there.

What still needs more research is exactly when someone can get infected with COVID-19 again after getting a vaccine or getting sick, and evidence suggests it may vary by person, said Cameron and several Florida public health experts. Some studies have suggested that one type of immunity may be better than the other.

At this point the CDC has less integrity than Pravda.

Rep. Harshbarger said there is ample scientific evidence from numerous peer-reviewed studies that natural immunity from previous COVID-19 infection is effective , durable and long-lasting. The CDC, she said, has already acknowledged natural immunity for measles, chickenpox and other viruses.

Rep. Chris Stewart said the mere introduction of Harshbarger’s Natural Immunity is Real Act is proof of the Biden administration’s inconsistency on COVID-19. The GOP House members say President Joe Biden’s policies fail to recognize that millions of Americans have immunity because they’ve already had and recovered from the virus. People should not be forced to choose between getting the vaccine or keeping their job, they say.

However, Research comparing immune responses in people who have recovered from Covid-19 to those who have been vaccinated has been mixed , according to a Wall Street Journal story.

RE: Health experts ... name names.

Well, they named one of them in the article: Kenneth Goodman, director of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy.

It seems pretty clear to me. I do not wish to be RAPED by a syringe full of an experimental mRNA vaccine

If this passes COVID parties will become a thing. I’m fortunate and did not catch this and if I did I am unaware. I prefer natural immunity to the vaccinations any day.

The answer is EVERYONE should be exempt from unconstitutional "mandates" which are null and void.

Like most garbage out of CDC lately, how they look at numbers determines the outcome they will get. We have been hearing for a while now that someone is only considered vaccinated 2 weeks after thier second shot. So if someone got COVID after the first shot, then recovered, then got it again later, does that count as a reinfection of a vaccinated or unvaccinated person. Likewise, what is the reinfection rate of those who got COVID before being vaccinated, then got vaccinated, then got COVID again. Are they considered vaccinated or unvaccinated for the study. I really hate that I dont feel I can trust anything that comes out of the CDC anymore. They issue papers to present a particular narrative they want to push, instead of science.

“Many studies suggest natural immunity fades over time, and a vaccine improves immunity in people who have already had COVID-19.”

You’re terrified of Covid, and two people want to enter your restaurant: one who you know has acquired natural immunity, another who hasn’t, but who has been fully vaccinated. To reduce your risk, which would you turn away? The unvaccinated one, or the vaccinated one?

Never mind, critical thinking has no place in this Milgrim experiment writ large.
