Energy crunch to 'continue well into 2022': Duke Energy CEO

A global energy crunch, fueled by tightening coal and gas supply, has already roiled the market and threatened to squeeze customers this winter, as utility bills rise.

That may just be the beginning, according to Duke Energy (DUK) CEO Lynn Good, who heads one of the country’s largest energy holding companies.

In an interview at Yahoo Finance’s All Markets Summit, Good said she expects the supply and demand imbalance in the energy markets to continue well into 2022, with full rebalancing not expected until "2022 rolls into 2023."

“We're facing a period where the production of these commodities has remained flat, in some cases, maybe even declining,” she said. “Over time, prices will increase. And that kind of depends on where you're situated, what your mix of fuels are, and how much exposure you might have to natural gas and coal.”

The U.S., the world’s largest supplier of natural gas, hasn’t been immune. Prices are up roughly 90% over the last year, reaching levels that haven’t been seen since 2014.

The energy crunch will continue until there is cataclysmic change of leadership in this country, by way of the election process, God willing.

Surprise, surprise. You don’t build nuclear power plants, close perfectly good functional nuclear plants like Indian Point to appease environmental lunatics, stop drilling for oil and gas, prevent the building of pipelines, and of course through governmental regulations and fiats make it nearly impossible to mine ,burn or even export coal to meet demand. This CEO at Duke Energy no doubt is worth every penny of the millions of dollars he is being paid. How astonishing to predict that energy shortages will persist through 2022 and prices will continue to climb.

One way to strangle capitalism is to starve it of cheap, reliable energy. The vile globalist/socialists of the Biden cabal want not only to destroy capitalism, but wish to impoverish Americans as they strip them of their liberty and freedoms. It is all designed to destroy the American nation and transform it into a cog of a new world socialist order controlled by elites.

Seems like merely a year ago we were doing fairly well energy wise. I wonder what happened.

A raise in energy prices is a direct tax on the middle and lower middle class.
The poor will still be subsidized. They will remain poor.

However, the middle class will have less to spend on Christmas presents, going out to eat, groceries, new cars, vacations, etc. This and price inflation is a direct and indirect reduction in the GDP. Look for a recession in 2022.

Not sure I agree that oil at 82 and nat gas in the 5.00 area is sustainable, not before a large correction in any case. I’m looking at broad equities and the oil sector and its all too rich for my blood. Very over bought.

Its not—under normal circumstances. But if transport is going to cost significantly more...than the end product is going to cost more.

Energy costs are soaring, inflation is ramping up, the border is wayyy out of control, the supply chain is a tangled nightmare, still many hundreds of Americans are held hostage by the Taliban and Haitian gangs, federal deficits are nearing $3 trillion a MONTH…. And the idiots who comprise 42% of the population are perfectly happy with Biden’s job performance.

After all the illegals they have brought in combined with the rampant cheating in our elections, it might be too late to save this country. I hope not.
