Former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods (D) died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon at the age of 67, multiple news outlets reported.
“Grant was the love of my life. My best friend. My heart is broken," his wife, Marlene Galan Woods, said in a statement, according to ABC 15. "I just cannot believe he is gone. I can’t believe our time together is over. He was the best husband, the best father anyone could have wished for.”
The details about cause of death were not made available.
Woods was a well-known figure in Arizona politics.
The late politician served as congressional chief of staff for the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the 1980s, and remained friends with the Vietnam War veteran for the rest of his life. Woods supported McCain when he ran for the U.S. Senate nomination in 2010, AZ Family noted and spoke at McCain's funeral in 2018.
McCain passed away from complications related to brain cancer. At the time, he held one of Arizona's Senate seats.
Woods also served as the state Attorney General from 1991 to 1999, according to the former politician's website.

A national treasure is gone. I have no idea who that national treasure was but h/she is gone, gone, gone.
Prayers to his family.
From 2011, The Hill:
On Monday, Mayors Against Illegal Guns — a group headed by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino — introduced a proposal to require states to report mental health records, drug-abuse histories, domestic violence cases and other red flags to NICS. The proposal would also require unlicensed gun dealers to perform NICS background checks — a step not mandated under current law.
“While I support the Second Amendment rights of responsible, law-abiding Americans, I also support tough, common-sense laws to keep guns out of the hands of felons, drug abusers, the mentally ill and other dangerous people,” Grant Woods, former Republican attorney general of Arizona, said in endorsing the Bloomberg proposal.
That would be prayers FOR his family, no TO. The latter would mean they are divine, and that’s clearly not the case
...just as it officially comes out that McCain was shopping the Dossier to try to take down Trump.
Another RINO gone, I wonder if another young RINO will pick up his horn and continue to use it on the Constitution?
Hmmm, swamp critters are starting to drop like flies as this Durham thing marches forward.
"We've never heard of him, but we are saddened."
Grant Woods had zero to do with anything Durham is investigating.
Exactly why is this news?? Does the sHill report every time a former state AG passes??
I was told it was a heart attack.
Grantee we hardly knew yee.
LoL...first thing I thought about.
